Long-term Aspects

The major trends in our lives are driven by the slow-moving outer planets, i.e. Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, whereas daily events are triggered by the faster-moving bodies such as Mercury, Venus, Mars, and of course the Sun and Moon. Jupiter falls somewhat inbetween, and tends to likewise trigger specific events. These innies and outies work together in amazing harmony as the Universe guides and directs us along the course of our lives. The great appeal of astrology lies in the fact that most people want to know what's going on in their lives. They intuitively know that there's a plan being executed in which they play an integral part and want to see the script so they can anticipate their roles and lines. This information is discernible based on the Houses these planets are transiting.

If there's one astrological principle that's harder to grasp than others it's the concept of Houses. This is largely because they aren't as black and white as a planet at a specific location in a sign. For one thing, most people have two different Houses, one based on Sun Sign astrology, which is what these horoscopes use, and another based on your Ascendant as determined by your time of birth. If you were born between roughly 6:00 - 8:00 AM, these may be the same, but otherwise not. There are also a plethora of House systems, but I won't even go there. In Sun Sign astrology, your 1st House would be the same as your Sun Sign. If using your actual natal chart, then the first house is defined by your Ascendant, which is the astrological sign that was on the eastern horizon at the time of your birth. [NOTE:--If you don't know your ascendant, but do know your time of birth, send your date, time, and place of birth to Whobeda who will email back a copy of your natal chart so you can find out your ascendant, Moon sign, and where the other planets were located when you were born.]

If you DO know your ascendant, it doesn't hurt to read your horoscope for both your Sun Sign and your Ascendant Sign. The odd part about it is that either one seems to work. Details are more reliable when derived from your actual birth chart, but since the Universe really wants us to have this information, it works amazingly well based on Sun Signs as well. So, that said, let's see what the outies are doing these days.

Saturn, who went retrograde on New Years Eve, is in Virgo, your 3rd House of thoughts, ideas, neighborhood activities, and short journeys. This is going to affect you thought processes, perhaps impart some structure to your interactions with your neighbors, and possibly cause delays in any short trips. Saturn is all about stability, responsibility, obligations, authority figures, delays and structure. When he goes retrograde we need to rework something that needs his tutoring. He'll be retrograde until May 16, by which time you should know what you need to be working on, which you'll most likely have completed by the end of August. This transit should help you structure your thoughts and mental processes better, especially considering the fact the Sign involved is Virgo. You may also become involved in organizing your neighborhood in some manner, whether it's conducting a charity drive, setting up a Neighborhood Watch anti-crime group, or other similar activity where you take a leadership role. This should not be a particularly painful transit, though Saturn in other houses isn't always as kind.

Uranus is currently plodding along in Pisces, your 9th House of beliefs (including political and religious), long distance/foreign travel and relocation, higher education, and legal matters (e.g., contracts including marriage or real estate purchases and, of course, lawsuits). Uranus is all about sudden change, rebellion, disruptions, and unexpected events of all descriptions. He's the antithesis of Saturn in a variety of ways. And this is where it gets interesting, because during most of January and February Saturn and Uranus will be in opposition. Obviously, they already are in principle, but in addition, they'll be pulling you in two different directions as well as they glare at each other across the zodiac.

With Saturn retrograde during this time, however, these two may work together better than expected because Saturn RX is about restructuring something and Uranus is about change. Most of this is taking place on the mental plane and as Saturn restructures your thoughts in some way, it will undoubtedly affect your beliefs as they are simply the result of synthesizing and applying your thoughts. You'll have new and different things to consider and may make some significant changes in how you approach life. Take another look at those 9th House areas and expect one or more things to get shaken up over the next few months. By May 16, when Saturn takes it out of reverse, you will have made some decisions and be seeing things differently than you are now.

Neptune is in Aquarius, your 8th House of transformations, which include sex, death, and other people's resources. It's also the house of rebirth, so it's not necessarily a bad place to be. Neptune rules our dreams, dishes out inspiration, and takes us places we've never been before. Not all transformations include an element of spirituality, but they're more likely to while Neptune is the project manager. During this ongoing transit which will last until March 2012 you can expect to become a different person in a few ways. This will undoubtedly tie in with those belief changes Saturn and Uranus are working on as well.

Pluto, who moved into Capricorn for the long-haul at the end of November, is in your 7th House of one-on-one relationships. Pluto is the master of transformation as the ruler of Scorpio, the zodiacal 8th House. You can expect one or more relationships to undergo some significant changes as well during this time. Pluto will be in Capricorn until November 2024, so this will be ongoing for many years to come. However, as you change your beliefs and evolve to a slightly different person, it's intuitively obvious that this will have an effect on your relationships. These are the long-term trends that you can expect to see coming your way, starting with the big-picture view.

Short Term/Daily Aspects

January 2: That Plutonian project directed at your relationships gets started today as some news or information surfaces that causes friction in some way. Someone may ask you for a loan or vice versa. Either way it's probably not a very good idea.

January 4: An opportunity for a new romantic relationship or to rekindle an existing one is out there as a result of a new experience of some sort, such as taking a trip, going back to school, or discovering something new.

January 5: New information is starting to come your way already regarding your beliefs. You're seeing things you missed before and giving them serious thought.

January 6: Someone close to you may be a little too pushy to suit you today. They're probably stretching the truth a bit, too, so don't believe everything they say.

January 8: You're already starting to see things differently than you did before and are storing the information away for consideration, though you may not even be aware you're doing so. You heard or saw something today that you questioned in one way or another. Don't dismiss it without due consideration.

January 9: An unexpected encounter with someone from a different culture, that you meet while traveling, or in an academic environment is going to have more effect on you than you realize. Listen to him or her carefully as this person is probably the vehicle for some of the new ideas you need to consider.

January 10: More information will come your way again today, probably via a woman, that will be part of that gathering storm involving your core beliefs. There's a big world out there, much of which you're unfamiliar with, but that's going to be changing little by little as time goes on. Remember if you're not moving forward and progressing, then you're moving backward.

January 11: Full Moon today in your 1st House of personality. A Full Moon ordinarily indicates a culmination of some sort, so this is but another indication that changes are coming that will originate deep within you. Your thoughts will be drawn to your relationships again today, perhaps specifically how you get/got along with your father or, for women, possibly your husband. Mercury goes retrograde today, further enhancing the ability to reconsider old ideas in a new way.

January 12: You're going to be hearing a lot about relationships this month, and today is no exception. You've always been close to your family and may have thought that everyone else's family operated in the same way as yours. You're beginning to realize that this is not the case. Nonetheless, if you try to move toward a slightly different path, you're likely to get some flack from your loved ones.

January 15: More thoughts of a transformation nature are coming your way for consideration. This is not the usual daily fluff but at a much deeper level.

January 17: Unexpected news or information that relates to these new ideas your ruminating upon will cause a bit of a disturbance today. Keep an open mind and be as objective as possible. You make most of your decisions with your heart, but don't forget to factor in your head on this one.

January 18: A major breakthrough today, even if it's simply an "Aha!" moment. Take note as it's more important than you may realize.

January 19: Once again you've found something out about someone close to you that you didn't know and causes you to see them differently than before. New considerations about love or money are in the mix as well.

January 20: If any of this new information has been going over your head, today it's likely finally to register or make more sense than before. With the Sun in Aquarius, new ideas will be easier to grasp than other times of year. Inauguration Day today should contribute to this area as well.

January 21: If you're experiencing a new environment, such as a new location, going to college, or expanding your mind in some other academic pursuit, some of the concepts may create some tension today, either because it's something entirely new that you haven't considered before or because it's uncomfortable in some way. Growth is not always comfortable. Seeing those close to you through new eyes isn't always comfortable, either.

January 22: Someone close to you may cause a big disturbance that may even involve breaking the law in some way. Whatever you do, don't break it yourself.

January 23: Something unexpected again today that will have a strong effect on those evolving beliefs. This could come through academic circles, a new experience, traveling somewhere far from home, or possibly even through something that involves science, religion, or politics.

January 24: Busy, hectic day today with multiple aspects stirring things up, including a few surprises. A significant transformation is on the way that is going to involve a relationship. Mars is in your 7th House of relationship, throwing a lot of energy and aggression in that direction. Thus, don't be surprised to see this leaking out in a variety of places. You're going to notice it more than usual and give it some serious thought today. If a new relationship is underway, you'll have reason to give it a lot of consideration today as well as it will have a significant impact on your life. Getting along with members of the opposite sex should go fairly well, but keep an eye on that aggression factor.

January 26: New Moon today in your 8th House of transformation. By this point, this should not be a surprise that something new is coming into your life. You are noticing all of these things and they're on your mind a lot. You're not sure what to do with it yet, and that's fine, because Saturn retrograde and Mercury retrograde are helping you to figure that out. It's okay to explore new concepts and ideas and even life styles, but also don't believe everything you see or hear without further investigation, no matter how convincing or pushy they are. It's a favorable time to talk about important issues with your significant other or anyone else close to you where a similar discussion is appropriate.

January 27: Arguments are likely to occur today just about everywhere. Solutions, however, will be in short supply. Continue to question new concepts, not out of skepticism but so you'll understand them as thoroughly as possible and be better qualified to make a judgment on them. Major changes that result in a total transformation of your beliefs is afoot. This is a particularly interesting aspect on the mundane level, i.e. the astrology that influences the world and institutions. Considering the inauguration was a week ago, massive transformations in belief systems are undoubtedly underway for everyone, but it's worth considering that the United States was "born" under the sign of Cancer, so this applies to the entire country.

January 30: More to think about regarding how your thought processes are expanding today. This is going to be a busy year and this month certainly gave it a jump-start. Pay attention to the things that happened this month as they're going to have more meaning than you may realize as time goes on.
