Long Term Aspects Aspects from the outer planets (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto) tend to last for a long time, due to their slow moving nature and relatively long periods of retrograde motion. This is something to which you Bulls should be able to relate. These ongoing influences have a significant affect on our lives as they stroll through the various Houses of our Natal Charts. Currently, Saturn is on such a stroll, so let's take a look at what he might be up to. Saturn's the task-master/party pooper of the Zodiac whose raison d'être is to instill responsibility, respect for authority, discipline, and patience upon us, like it or not. As a long-term resident of your 5th House, there are various possibilities regarding what he'll be trying to teach you. The 5th House covers a lot of ground. It comprises our ego, lovers, children, creativity, hobbies, speculation, and entertainment. These are all expressions of who we are when others are watching as well as how we enjoy ourselves. These will be further colored by the sign cusp on which it falls on our natal chart, but generally speaking for Taurus it will be found in Virgo. Virgo is detail-oriented, meticulous, critical, and perfectionistic, but tends to be humble and self-deprecating, which, of course, is a bit out of synch with 5th House themes. It is also an Earth Sign, like Taurus, so isn't too far off as an expression of who and what you are at the basic level; both are solid, practical, signs that are tied to the Earth and value security. With a home base within the Zodiacal 2nd House of possessions, finances, and pleasures, Bulls appreciate and even require their creature comforts. They can do without trendy items, preferring to maintain a healthy bank balance, but won't do without a warm plate of food and comfortable bed, no matter how humble it may be. Thus, their 5th House, which embodies their ego, creative side, and what they enjoy doing, is going to reflect these elements as well. For example, many Taureans love to cook; they appreciate gourmet foods and fine wines, in spite of their frugal nature. They like things that are soft and comfortable and prefer high quality to simple glitz. They're tied to the Earth and find a strong sense of renewal being around it. They love nature, being outdoors, and close to the land. If they don't own a piece of the Earth somewhere they'll have a strong sense of something being missing. They enjoy activities such as playing golf, hiking, gardening/landscaping, and wood carving. In other words, their creative expression will come through the Earth in some way. The reason I'm going into all this is to provide some context regarding what's going on while Saturn is in your 5th House. Would the truth be known, Saturn, ruler of Capricorn, is fairly comfortable in this part of the zodiacal neighborhood and responsible Bulls aren't likely to mind the visit. Saturn transits can be uncomfortable and even painful for some, but this shouldn't be a problem for you unless you're not meeting your obligations or being irresponsible in some way. If you party a bit more than you should or are over-indulgent, this should help you get a grip on some moderation and common sense. Saturn is about discipline and responsibility, but these in and of themselves are not bad things and are actually in considerable harmony with Taurean principles. Conversely, anything encompassed by the 5th House that you haven't developed as you should will benefit from this visit. Bulls can be a bit lazy and this infusion of discipline could do you good in pursuing and developing some of your talents and abilities. The twelve astrological houses encompass important elements that collectively comprise a full life; any that are neglected leave a void in our being, so it's important to develop each one. Saturn is retrograde until May 16. During this period you'll be ruminating upon something in this area of your life. There's some action you need to take and you'll be figuring it out, then be ready to act upon it by the time Saturn goes direct. Think about what it could be. You have about four months to figure it out. But Saturn isn't alone in this transit so let's talk about Uranus and the affect of his presence in your 11th House of friends, group associations, coworkers, hopes and wishes. Bulls are generally friendly enough, but don't have a problem being a loner. Aquarius owns this zodiacal House and Aquarius is in square aspect to Taurus, meaning they're not naturally the best of friends. A Taurus who thrives on the groupy type of environment will have a Moon and/or Ascendant in an Air or Fire Sign. A pure Taurus or Earth Sign person couldn't care less. Uranus rules Aquarius, however, so he's at home in this house. Excitement and rebellion are his domain and he's going to bring some of it your way. This is not necessarily a bad thing. As noted earlier, we need balance across all twelve houses in our lives and if you're too much of an isolationist, so tight you squeak, or rather sit home watching the food channel with a glass of private reserve cabernet than enjoy a cheap beer during happy hour with your coworkers, maybe you're missing something. Then again, maybe not, but it's worth consideration. There's also the possibility that you spend way too much time hanging out with friends and enjoying yourself while life and opportunities slip away through neglect. Pleasure is high up your list and it may be distracting you from the more responsible parts of life that also bring the most rewards. Of course the real question is how this opposition between Saturn and Uranus is going to play out. If you want to embrace it entirely and get the most out of this astrological encounter, what should you be looking for or doing? Throughout January and February, Saturn will be in opposition to Uranus. Imbuing your hobbies, ego, or lovelife with more discipline will have significant benefits. You could even develop a hobby into a source of income with some discipline, n'est'ce pas? And having some surprises and excitement in your life via your friends could liven things up a bit and give you an idea how the other half lives. It could force you out of your cave and into the open air and light of day. The challenge here will be to divide your time between the two in a harmonious manner such that you develop all sides of your personality. On the other hand, maybe you've been immersed in a hedonistic lifestyle and neglecting your responsibilities to your children or lovers. Maybe you play all the time instead of meeting your obligations. If you need tutoring in this area, you will not see Saturn as your friend, at least not yet. As a Fixed Sign you don't like change and seldom change your mind. This, in itself, is a manifestation of your ego. Maybe you think all chaos is self-imposed and have no sympathy for those who are being run ragged by hectic lives. You like to take your time with decisions and prefer a quiet, steady pace. Maybe being forced to respond to a series of hassles at work or unexpected events will open the door on some humility as you realize sometimes such things are out of a person's control. While it may seem a lot easier to sit home in peace and quiet and watch that dude who travels around the world eating weird stuff like live squid, but maybe you're missing part of your human education that way. On the other hand, if you're one of those Taureans who enjoys hanging out with a bunch of friends and craves excitement, maybe you need to lean toward Saturn's disciplinary promptings and discover something new about yourself. The 5th House is about you, the 11th about others. Which one is being exercised due to neglect? This transit will help you figure it out. There are so many possibilities that I could go on and on for way too long and still not cover all the possibilities. However, if you think about it you should have enough information at this point to figure it out. From January 11 - February 1 Mercury will be retrograde in Aquarius, your 10th House of career and reputation, and Capricorn, your 9th House of beliefs, relocation, long distance travel, relocation, legal matters and higher education. Mercury RX gives us the opportunity to take a second look at something and revise it as necessary. Moving forward during this time is usually an exercise in futility. Look at these two areas of your life and consider what merits a second look. In a general sense, since Mercury rules motion and communications, this is not a favorable time to buy anything of an electronic or mechanical nature. However, rethinking your career path or a recent project is favored as well as any plans to further your education or go on an extended trip. Contracts are included in the 9th, so if you're buying or thinking about buying some property during this time they'll be stuck in reverse, giving you plenty of time to determine whether or not it's a good move. Last, but not least, we have Pluto who's also in Capricorn, your 9th House. The planets are all bunched up in a planetary parade this month with your 9th and 10th Houses getting the bulk of the action. Pluto is the slowest moving planet in the known solar system. He entered Capricorn to stay at the end of November and will be there until November 2024. Yes, November, Twenty-Twenty-Four. Since you like to move slowly and deliberately, you're probably okay with this. What you can expect during this time is to have your belief system entirely remodeled among other things. If you're inclined to stay at home, situations will arise that force you to get out and see the world. You may be transferred across the country or across the globe. You may return to school and have your belief system entirely annihilated then reassembled. If you've done anything illegal, it's going to be time to pay the price. It may be uncomfortable, but it will give you a new view of the world that will benefit you greatly. It will happen as a natural course of events, but will be there if you look for it. Daily and Short-term Aspects [Please refer to our Daily Astrocast for missing dates and allow a 24 hour window both ways of the ones specified below.] January 2: News of some sort related to your career or reputation is going to create an annoyance of some description that could relate to legal action, higher education, or any of those 9th House issues noted earlier. With Pluto involved, it could mean a figurative rock gets over-turned with some ugly stuff beneath it that you'll have to clean up. Make sure that you don't react in a pompous, conceited, or self-righteous way as that will only make things worse. January 4: Venus is in your 11th House of friends, which could indicate an opportunity for some romance is brewing. It could also mean that a friend or group will bring some financial benefits your way, either of which you would certainly enjoy. This person or opportunity is going to stir up some of your existing beliefs such that you may change your mind about a few things. January 5: Unexpected news will creative a disruption within your work group today. Do your best to deal with it in a professional manner or it will splash on you in an unfavorable way. January 6: Your drive to pursue going back to school, take a trip abroad, or perhaps relocate may not advance your career like you think it will. Don't believe everything you hear and remember if something sounds too good to be true it probably is. January 8: Whatever restructuring is taking place within that 5th House of ego gratification is going to cause some tension with your thoughts about your career. This may translate as news from your boss that you're not nearly as brilliant as you thought or perhaps a revelation on your part that you're in the wrong job. January 9: The Sun is shining brightly in that 9th House of higher education, legal matter, relocation and so forth and today a friend or acquaintance may hand you an opportunity to make a big change. Think about it long and hard. Change is hard for you, but this may be the direction you need to go. January 10: A female coworker or friend will have some annoying news for you today that affects your career and/or reputation. Take careful note of what's going on around you these days and think about where it's all heading. January 11: Full Moon today in Cancer, your 3rd House of thoughts, ideas, neighborhood activities and short journeys, indicating that something in this part of your life is culminating or entering a new phase. If you're not married because you don't want the additional responsibility or simply are avoiding changing your comfortable routine, some sound reasons to reconsider that stance may come your way today. Listen carefully. This could also relate to child support issues wandering into the legal arena, particularly if you've been trying to hide something. Mercury goes retrograde today, giving you time to think about it until February 1. January 12: Big annoyances related to your career or reputation are still out there and stirring things up in such away it will have a huge effect on your belief system in some way. Someone or something is trying to get your attention. If your career goals have been concocted through rose-colored glasses or otherwise unrealistic in some way, the fog is about to burn off in the full light of day. January 15: If you've been neglecting any of your responsibilities, you're about to realize that you weren't getting away with it after all. What goes around, comes around. January 17: A disruption within your work group or amongst your friends is going to cause some setbacks or affect your reputation in some way. January 18: Big news today on the job. Put on your thinking cap to see what it means to you. January 19: If your nose is clean, maybe your company can't make the same claim. If you have any dirty little secrets that haven't already surfaced, they probably will. Likewise those that belong to others, including up the corporate ladder. It's going to be annoying regardless of whether or not you're the star. Gossip is thicker than flies at a hog farm. January 20: More big news, this time in the full light of day. What can you do to take advantage of it? Where there's chaos there's opportunity. Find it. January 21: If you're trying for a promotion, there's probably a female coworker who's going to try to get in your way. Proceed with calm and confidence. The truth will come out sooner than you think. January 22: Being too pushy about your beliefs could result in a disruption or surprise reaction from someone at work or within one of the organizations you're involved with. It may be a good thing, so don't overreact. January 23: Something unexpected regarding a female friend will take you by surprise today. It's also a good day to pick up a lotto ticket. January 24: Today is going to be loaded with a variety of events. Expect to be in the spotlight today, but it may ultimately have mixed results. Your drive to pursue something in the academic or legal arena will have a favorable impact on meeting your responsibilities or launching that creative project you've been working on. For example, your hard work in a class may pay off, or if you're involved in litigation, it should have a favorable impact on meeting your responsibilities, such as obtaining a judgment for back child support. However, you'll be torn between doing or getting something you've wanted for a long time versus meeting your obligations. For example, if you were to receive a bonus, you'd be debating on whether to sponsor happy hour to celebrate with your coworkers versus taking it home to catch up on some bills or buy something you promised to one of your kids. Interactions with the opposite sex should be favorable, however, so use that in the most appropriate way. January 26: New Moon today in your 10th House of career and reputation, further reinforcing whatever is going on in this area of your life. Something new is coming, so keep your eyes open. If the advancement or promotion that seems to be coming your way is dependent on a background check, credit check, or other personal reference, you may not like the result if you've messed up somewhere that affects what they find. In other words, don't count your chickens before they're hatched or set yourself up for disappoint via unrealistic expectations. Good news is out there, however, so unless you really did something wrong, it should work out okay. January 27: Be careful not to be too forceful in expressing your opinion today or rambling on about something that isn't based on cold, hard facts. Likewise, don't believe everything you hear, either. More disruptions and chaos at work today, but this seems to be the new norm these days. January 30: More annoyances between career and your love life, children, hobbies, or enjoying yourself may come up today, possibly because of expanded responsibilities at work.
