Lunations and Long-term Aspects This month there are two long-term aspects as well as three lunations to kick off the New Year. The first one, which got started last month and was exact for the first time on November 15, is a square between two "bad boys", i.e. Saturn and Pluto. This was talked about to some degree is last month's horoscope but is worth expansion since it will be in effect for essentially four months next year. For the most part, Leos who will be most affected by this aspect have birthdays between July 23 - 27. The good news is that while the transiting planets are in hard aspect to one another, with respect to your Natal Sun, they're not as harsh. Saturn is sextile your Sun, which typically denotes an opportunity, even though when Saturn's involved it's likely to be a bit more forceful. Nonetheless, it should bring positive benefits, which is the usual design of the Universe, anyway. Transits are only as painful as they need to be to teach their lesson. If you have that particularly area of your life in perfect order, then you have a form of astrological immunity. However, few of us ever have anything in perfect order so there is always room for improvement. The real key is how we direct the planetary energy, which always has a negative and positive side. For example, when you're having a difficult transit, you can either fight against it, blame the entire world for your misfortunes, and conduct an on-going pity party until it passes or you can humble yourself, acknowledge your mistake or weaknesses, and then get onboard to rectify and correct them so you do better in the future. Which you choose to do is a clear reflection of your maturity. That said, note that Saturn is all about authority figures, responsibility, meeting your obligations, delays, boundaries, structure, hard lessons, and any older individuals in your life who serve as a mentor or that you respect and are willing to listen to. He can be the author of guilt and misery as he rubs your nose in past mistakes, but his ultimate goal is to teach you what life is all about. He is currently in your 3rd House of thoughts, ideas, neighbors, siblings and short journeys, which include all those daily errands and running around you do. If you're having difficulties in any of those areas, then now is the time to get it together. The image of Father Time that is so frequently associated with the old year is very Saturnian, though the concept of new birth brings us to Pluto, who's about death and regeneration. Pluto is in Capricorn, your 6th House of work, health, and pets. This includes any activity you engage in where you're productive, whether it's your job, a hobby that produces a product such as most crafts, volunteer work, or how you contribute your efforts to the world. Your health, which is a reflection of your emotional state, is also included in this house. Pluto is the zodiacal roto-rooter or forensics expert who insists that all things that have been buried immaturely or represent something hidden that should be rectified are exposed to the open air, then taken care of in an appropriate manner. If you don't have any issues in this area that require this treatment, then you will observe it happening to those around you, particularly in the workplace. Be particularly conscious of your health at this time as something could be lurking beneath the surface there as well. If you have symptoms you've been ignoring, chances are they will escalate and get your attention, loud and clear, over the coming months. For example, Pluto rules bacteria, cancer, your bladder and excretory organs, the healing process generally, genitals and their diseases, hemorrhoids, the pancreas, prostate, and viruses to name a few. So that covers the individual activities of these two planets, but what will happen when they are squared off? A square typically brings a conflict or crisis, so now is when you do the mix and match routine on the elements from the 3rd and 6th houses and see where conflicts could lie. Another thing to consider is that Saturn is about authority and Pluto is about power and power trips. If you a problem with authority figures, this transit is going to bring that out and also exacerbate your attitude in this area. Thus, if you get pulled over for speeding by the local sheriff (Saturn) while doing some of your errands (3rd House) you may become extremely agitated by the imposition (Pluto) that restricts your activities (6th House). Saturn in the 3rd could represent an older sibling and Pluto in the 6th could also represent someone at work on a power trip or secrets in the workplace that will be exposed over the coming months. The 3rd House sometimes includes like-minded people, such as coworkers, though they seem to show up more in the 11th, though you never can tell. The 6th is usually the work itself or the environment as opposed to individuals. Anyway, you should get the idea. I'm sure by the time you've dealt with this until mid-March and then from July through September you'll know exactly what it was all about, being as hindsight is usually 20:20. Another long-term influence that may really be hard to ignore is another Mars retrograde cycle, something that only occurs every two years and two months. This progresses through the zodiac, sign by sign, and this next one will be spent in Leo. Mars RX typically makes you more reactive than assertive and also flushes out unresolved conflict. With Mars in your 1st House of personality, this will have a particularly personal effect. This cycle will last from December 20 through March 10 though the "shadow" period, which is the time until Mars returns to the zodiacal degree where he went RX, will last until May 17. If your birthday falls between July 23 - August 13 this one will hit you in the headlights sooner or later as it conjuncts your Natal Sun. If you're a Leo with a temper, and most of you are, this will be a time to give serious consideration to any events or situations related to not properly controlling this energy, which ultimately ties into your ego. If you've gotten yourself into trouble, missed out on opportunities, or damaged your self-image by inappropriate behavior, then think about it, a lot. here may be one particular thing involved with this transit and if that's the case, it's most likely to come to your attention in a dramatic way on January 29, so mark your calendar accordingly. The Full Moon on December 2 occurs in Gemini, your 11th House of groups, organizations, friends, goals, hopes and wishes. This will be particularly helpful if your birthday is within a day or so of August 3. If this is the case, this Sun - Moon opposition will create a Triangle of Potential with your Natal Sun, putting you in the driver's seat to use this lunation to your advantage in some way. The Sun will be in your 5th House of self-expression, creativity, children, romance, entertainment and speculation, home base zodiacally for Leos, so this implies you'll be able to use something in this area to create some opportunities in your group interactions. This may be no more complicated than using your creativity to put together a cute holiday gift for your friends. A Full Moon usually indicates an ending or culmination such as where a milestone is completed and a situation or project goes to the next phase or level. The aspects associated with this Full Moon offer a few clues, including the likelihood that news or an idea associated with your 5th House of ego expression and creativity will create a challenge with respect to your 8th House of transformation, sex, death and regeneration and shared resources. This could easily indicate news that one of your speculations suddenly collapsed though a correspondence between your house of romance and house of sex has various possibilities as well, particularly since there's an opportunity in your 7th House of relationships as well, though this may not come through. The New Moon on December 16 occurs in fellow Fire Sign, Sagittarius, and will have the strongest influence on Leos born within a day or so of August 17. This will bring something new into your life in that 5th House of creativity, romance, children, and so forth. Adjustments or a change of course related to your work or health may result in addition to numerous opportunities relative to your relationships which include rectifying previous emotional issues, expanding your existing relationships and perhaps allowing others to dissolve if they're no longer serving you. Transformational change or something else unexpected that comprises an 8th House issue such as sex, death, shared resources, debt, and so forth is likely as well. Again we have the house of romance and house of sex tied together, so there's also the remote chance of a new intimate relationship on the horizon. The Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse on December 31 (January 1 in Australia and that part of the world) occurs in Cancer, your 12th House of spirituality, enlightenment, dreams, institutions, confinement, hidden enemies, self-undoing, seclusion and the collective consciousness. This eclipse is a member of the 12 North family of the Saros Series and according to eclipse guru, Bernadette Brady, the typical effect of this group is to provide an unexpected opportunity to assume more responsibility, usually because someone else is no longer able to do so. While this may demand extra effort on your part initially, it ultimately results in higher self-esteem and confidence. A few things to note about this specific eclipse's aspects is that it contains two retrograde planets that will emphasize the necessity for reworking or reviewing a few things, especially related to work. Adjustments and course changes regarding your job are likely, but these will most likely come about through your own efforts. If you've been holding yourself back in any way or if there's someone out there undermining your efforts, this should also come out at this time. The potential for enlightenment of some description is high. Short-term Aspects December 1: Venus goes into Sagittarius today, bringing her blessings to your 5th House of creativity, romance, children, entertainment and speculation. This will last until Christmas, so make good use of it while it lasts. This could also tie into the fact that another relationship is about to dissolve. December 2: Full Moon today as described above. December 4: Think about relationship boundaries and how they can make them healthier. Also consider how greater discipline in your thought processes will ultimately help you present yourself in a more positive way. If you have children, better ways to discipline while still showing love are a good topic for consideration. December 5: Mercury goes into Capricorn, your 6th House of work and health, which will help facilitate information in that area. If your drive to accomplish something is being frustrated, the restrictions are probably self-imposed. December 7: Previously hidden news, perhaps related to a power play at work, is likely to come out today, which will hamper at least some of your thoughts or ideas. December 8: If you're upset about something going on at work, be careful how you express yourself about it and to whom or it will bite you later. December 10: Being too vocal about work issues could keep a relationship from going any further. Think about whether this is what you really want or if it's in your best interest to keep quiet. Your ego really wants to express itself but your best bet is to direct this toward a creative effort, doing something fun with your children, or pursuing a romantic interest. December 11: News or information at work is highly likely to dissolve a relationship now, if not before. December 14: Expect the unexpected today. This will be something significant enough to have a transformational effect on you. Expressing yourself freely to someone close to you will serve to expand the relationship. Drop the facades and be yourself for best results. December 15: Think about what the ideal relationship would look like and whether your own behavior fits your own description. December 16: New Moon today as described above. December 17: If you're lucky enough to have some new romantic interest today should be a significant day. It's also a great day to spend with your children or pursuing creative endeavors. December 19: Expect something interesting to develop in that new relationship today. If that doesn't apply to you, then look for your children to surprise you or perhaps something unexpected to develop with respect to one of your creative efforts. December 20: Mars goes retrograde today as described above. More interesting events related to that new romantic relationship or your children is likely today that will expand the relationship in a positive way. December 21: The Sun goes into Capricorn today, marking the winter solstice. Take another look at how you view relationships, whether you're being too idealistic, and expecting too much. Something going on at work may necessitate a change of course. December 24: Anything covert going on at work or with respect to your health will surface today. December 25: Venus goes into Capricorn, bringing her favor to the workplace and your health, which will make you feel somewhat better about whatever is going on or at least be more optimistic. However, watch out for clashes with authority figures or service people today, including law enforcement. Watch your temper, which should be easier with Mars RX, or you may not like how it turns out. December 26: Mercury goes retrograde today. Remember not to buy anything electronic or mechanical at those after Christmas sales. The next three weeks will be an excellent time to reconsider and rethink whatever is going on at work and your plans for dealing with it. December 27: Clashes, hopefully minor, with authority figures, are a possibility again today. You could also have a run-in with a neighbor or sibling. December 28: More revelations at work that involve money secrets or possibly related your health are likely. It's also a day for very intense interactions with the opposite sex. December 29: A female authority figure may get in your face today perhaps at work though a neighbor or older sibling could also be involved. December 30: Again, your relationship with someone at work is likely to be evaporating for one reason or another. Take another look at whether you're being too idealistic. Remember you can't expect perfection unless you can offer it. December 31: Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse as described above.
