Long Term Aspects

You’ve gotta admit that your Sign Ruler, stuffy ol’ Saturn, really did a number on you by going retrograde on New Years Eve.  What a way to start 2009 just when we were rejoicing that 2008 had ended.  Putting it in reverse has another side-effect in that it will extend that opposition he’s in with Uranus.  If the last several months have been beyond hectic and loaded with surprises, unexpected events, and disruptions, this is a good candidate for the cause, and this retrograde business means it’s not over yet.  In fact, it’s going to force us to ruminate upon what’s been going on in our lives and make some appropriate changes.  You may as well get comfortable, because forward movement is unlikely until at least May 16, and really getting out of the swamp won’t occur until somewhere in the vicinity of August 23.  And people wonder why Cappies are so solemn.

So, before we (yes, I’m a Cappie, so know whereof I speak) go off and imbibe some hemlock tea or other suitable herbal concoction, let’s take a closer look at what’s going on and how to manage it in the best possible way.

Saturn is in your 9th House of core beliefs, higher education, relocation, long-distance travel, and legal matters.  While this won’t necessarily be a cake-walk, it’s also not the worst place for this to happen.  It may be annoying or inconvenient, but at least it’s not messing with your relationships or something.  Thank heaven for small favors.  Uranus is in your 3rd House of thoughts, ideas, neighborhood activities, and short journeys.  You can see how these two houses, located across the zodiac from one another, have some things in common, much of it on the mental plane, though it also affects where we live. Overall, if you’ve been thinking about making some changes in this area of your life, Saturn is prompting you to rethink things.

Saturn is all about delays, responsibility, obligations, authority, structure, discipline, and fun things like that, so this is the theme he’s bringing to your 9th House.  In retrograde, he’s trying to get you to rebuild and redefine something.  Uranus is all about rebellion, disruptions, unexpected events, surprises, and innovation.  You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to see that these two planets are not going to relate to one another in a harmonious manner.  One is trying to build things up and develop stability, while the other is ripping through your life and schedule like a banshee who’s had too much caffeine.

Now that I’ve made you aware of what’s going on out there, there’s not much more I can say other than “Good luck with that.”  It’s going to have a large influence on the better part of 2009.  All you can do is trust the Universe and make every effort to listen to its tutoring with as open a mind as you can manage.  (My first reaction to this prognosis on a personal level can best be expressed by the expression <expletive deleted>.  In other words, I feel your pain.  I’ve been hoping to relocate and this tells me to forget it for now.  If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years it’s that arguing with the planets is the ultimate exercise in futility.)  On the other hand, with Uranus in the mix, you never know.  What ever you think will happen seldom does when he’s involved.  So time, as always, will tell.

Something else to watch out for this month is Mercury, who’s in another one of his infamous retrograde periods from January 11 – February 1.  As always, avoid buying anything electronic or mechanical, and most especially something like a car, during this time.  This is likely to really hit you in the possessions since Mercury throws it into reverse while he’s in Aquarius, your 2nd House of possessions, finances, and pleasures.  Expect your cell phone, computer, PDA, car, and heaven knows what else to misbehave during this time.  When he returns to Capricorn on the 21st, don’t expect to be able to express yourself very well or make any personal progress.  You may even be more tired than usual, since Mercury also affects movement.  If you’re planning a trip, make sure you double-check all your reservations as well as your means of travel.  Any number of things that affect you personally are going to be honked up.  Don’t take it personally and be grateful it’s only for a few weeks as opposed to months.

Mars is in your 1st House of personality until mid-February.  This will give you lots of drive and energy.  You’ll want to get things done and have plenty of energy.  Just don’t try and move in the wrong direction, which might be forward considering the retrograde action out there.  You may also be perceived as aggressive by those around you.  This is not always a bad thing, but be aware in case anyone throws it in your face.

As if things aren’t jolly enough around Cappyland this month, there’s also the fact that since the end of November Pluto is back in our neighborhood.  Right now I have him in my headlights as I await his arrival upon my Natal Sun.  No telling what he’ll bring.  Right now between Saturn RX, Mercury RX, and Pluto’s visit I’m considering volunteering for a NASA study in stasis engineering to see if I can sleep through the next several months.  I’m told that after surviving an encounter between Pluto and your Natal Sun that you’ll have an increased awareness of your sense of power.  Interesting.  If your birthday is right around December 22 or so you’re already feeling it.  Good luck with that, too.  I’ll be joining you soon.  Those of you born further along in December and into January don’t have to worry just yet.  Pluto will be in Cappy until November 2024.  No, that’s not a typo, the year twenty-twenty-four.  We’re all going to be able to relate to the mythical phoenix by the time he moves on.  We’ll be a different person when all is said and done, but this is not necessarily a bad thing, though it didn’t work too well for Anakin Skywalker, who obviously went through the equivalent of a Pluto transit after which he became Darth Vader.  Again, time will tell.

So, now that we’re all in a really good mood and just bubbling with optimism, let’s see what’s coming on a daily basis during our month.  Remember this is Solar Return time for Cappies, meaning the Sun will be in the same position as it was when you were born, starting a new cycle.  While it sounds less than enchanting, it will undoubtedly have its moments.  If you really want to know what’s coming your way, consider getting one of our Solar Return Reports, which will give you a glimpse of what to expect in the year ahead.  Please consider it seriously; I’m going to need the money.

Short Term/Daily Aspects

[Refer to Daily Astrocasts for dates not specifically mentioned. Please allow a 24 hour window each way of the date specified for the aspect to manifest.]

January 2:  Expect something you missed to bite you today.  Something will either stop working or break down due to some hidden problem you weren’t aware of.  It will be annoying but not fatal.  You’re also likely to want to get or buy something, perhaps to replace whatever tanked, then realize you can’t afford it.  Note that Jupiter is in Capricorn until the 5th, which may imbue you with a bit of over-confidence or extravagance.  When he moves into Aquarius, your 2nd House of possessions, it may not get any better, though it will be good for your finances if you manage it properly.  Tune in next month for more on that.

January 4:  Today is a good day for you financially.  One thing Pluto does for us is allow us to see and perceive things at a deeper level than usual.  There’s a financial opportunity out there today.  Do what it takes to find it.

January 5:  That bright, innovative idea may have a higher pricetag than expected.  Better to realize it now than after the check clears.

January 6:  Neptune, planet of dreams and illusions, is parked in your 2nd House of possessions and finances.  Mars is antagonizing him today, perhaps wanting something beyond reach or wanting something NOW.  Patience will be in short supply.  Try to chill and not bite any hands that feed you.

January 8:  The planets are still stacked up in a veritable parade that is resulting in a lot of annoying aspects.  These are better than those that create an actual crisis, but wear on you nonetheless.  Today Mercury and Saturn are getting into it.  This means that financial information may place some limitations on those long-term plans.

January 9:  Bright ideas are out there today.  Uranus may be full of surprises, but he also rules innovation and he’s in your 3rd House of thoughts and ideas.  This could be a good thing.  Pay attention.

January 10:  Your financial or material aspirations and checkbook are going to clash today.  It takes money to make money.  Sorry.

January 11:  Full Moon today, which should signal the culmination of something related to your 7th House of relationships.  Either one will end or enter a new phase.  Depending on who and what it is, this is probably a good thing.  Remember that relationships in this context comprises all one-on-one interactions including close friends, relatives, business partners, and of course, significant others.  You’re also on to something regarding that 9th House issue you’re trying to pursue.  Remember with Saturn retrograde you’re supposed to be working through something.  You’ll get some good ideas on that today.

January 12:  Plutonian insights will dig up something on those financial or investment plans that aren’t to your liking, but will save you some grief.  This is not a bad thing.  Any illusions you’ve been entertaining in this area need to be looked at in the full light of day.  Take off your rose-colored glasses and take a good, hard look.

January 15:  If you’re rethinking your finances as you should be you’ll find another irritation regarding that big move or current view of life.  That 9th House where Saturn is doing the backstroke also includes politics and religion, so if you’re having some second thoughts in that area, don’t be surprised.  There’s a lot to question these days.

January 17:  More financial surprises or thoughts that will have all the appeal of a case of poison ivy.

January 18:  Some big reconsiderations related to your possessions or finances (or maybe even your passions) will come along today.  It may be a major brainstorm or other event.  You may even want to buy a lotto ticket, but only one.  If it’s yours, it’s yours.

January 19:  The Sun goes into Aquarius today, your 2nd House of finance, possessions, and pleasures, bringing more light and emphasis to that part of your life.  Retrograde Mercury and Pluto are bringing more considerations your way that you missed previously.  Thoughts and ideas about money are profuse.  Find and keep the good ones.

January 20:  Another day for discovering important financial data.  Make sure you’re in the right place at the right time and paying attention.  There’s always a profit to be had somewhere.

January 21:  Possibly irritating thoughts and/or data regarding that 9th House stuff are on your mind today.  Moving, going back to school, changing your political or religious affiliations, contractual or legal issues, take your pick.  Your radar is deployed via that Plutonian antennae, however, to help you discern what’s really going on.

January 22:  The drive to pursue a new idea, go on a short trip, or improve your neighborhood is strong today.  Go for it, there’s an opportunity in there somewhere.

January 23:  Expect a surprise today of a pleasant nature, perhaps another brainstorm that you know will be successful.  Exploit it for all it’s worth.

January 24:  There’s a lot going on today that will keep you hopping.  Finances or possessions are the topic again, and could see some major increases.  Drive to pursue those 9th House issues will be strong and well spent, provided you’re figuring things out and not trying to move forward prematurely.  Financial opportunities or benefits may not be in harmony with those other plans, however.  It may be time to set some new priorities or a different timeline.

January 26:  New Moon today, introducing something new in that 2nd House of finances, possessions and pleasures.  Obviously there’s a lot going on in this area these days.  Money or resources just aren’t cooperating with those long-term plans.  If you’ve been wearing rose-colored glasses, it’s time to put them aside, painful though that may be.  Dreams are good only to a certain point and then set us up for disappointments. This is not to say there aren’t favorable solutions out there.  Put on your thinking cap.

January 27:  The drive to fix and/or redirect those plans and ideas is strong today.  Be open-minded and willing to head in a different direction as required.  Any delusions regarding your financial situation need to be dispelled, like it or not.  It’s very possible that your resources won’t support what you’d really like to do without some serious innovation.

January 30:  More frustrations regarding those long-term plans versus your pocketbook are coming along today.  Remember that those long-term plans are supposed to be under review, or perhaps what needs renovation are your beliefs behind them.  The Universe is trying to tell you something.  Have you figured out yet what it is?
