Long-term Aspects

There are three long-term astrological aspects this month that you should be aware of. These are the major themes in play that are not always visible on a day to day basis, yet if we're aware of them we can understand many things that happen that may appear at first to be random more clearly. Just like the gears of a clock, some things move more quickly than others. The daily events could be compared to the second hand of a clock; the monthly events to the minute hand; and the life-directing events to the hour hand. For starters, an aspect that peaks on February 5 but will continue to some degree through the middle of March is an opposition between Saturn and Uranus. These two planets are already diametrically opposed in principle, so it's somehow fitting that they're across the zodiac from one another engaged in a tug-o-war for our attention. Saturn is all about structure, responsibility, delays, obligations, and stability. Uranus, on the other hand, is all about rapid change, rebellion, freedom, and disruptions as well as unexpected events. Saturn is operating in your 2nd House of possession, finances, pleasures and your physical body while Uranus is in your 8th House of sex, death, transformations, and other people's money. Needless to say these two polar houses contain various overlapping similarities that affect one another, so it doesn't take too much to stir things up.

Naturally financial concerns are a big one these days for just about everyone. The economy is a wreck with no relief in sight anytime soon. Even if you're one of the few who's independently wealthy (if you are, please contact me, I could use a few rich clients) the world economy is not particularly stable these days. Mundane astrologers have plenty to say about that, which I'll leave alone, but the point is that as individuals we're more aware than ever of our ability to generate income (or lack thereof) and conversely where it goes, i.e. our debt load. Saturn in your 2nd House will really be rubbing your nose in those issues in a way that will be impossible to ignore. Meanwhile, Uranus is over there stirring things up, particularly the "other people's money" part, a.k.a. "debt." What is likely to be happening is that Uranus will stir something up regarding your debt load or lack of resources and Saturn will promptly tell you something entirely insensitive like "I told you to save more money." Saturn is going to annoy you and Uranus is going to require you to make some major adjustments and plan changes that will have a strong and lasting effect on you personally. You know, those kind of experiences that you learn from but don't particularly enjoy.

This entire scenario gets even more interesting due to the fact that Saturn went retrograde on New Years Eve, someone letting us know right up front what the year would be like for most of us. Saturn RX tends to bundle something up that needs attention, but lets it ferment for several months somewhere in your unconscious. Actually, you probably do know what it is, but you may be ignoring it, or trying to. This will go on until around the middle of May, at which time you'll know what you're dealing with. From that point until the end of August you'll have the opportunity to fix it. The good news is that Uranus will get out of the way by mid-March, though what he stirs up between now and then will definitely have a bearing on what you discover in May, if not sooner. Saturn is all about "paying the piper" for our mistakes. On the other hand, if your finances are under perfect control, your spending and saving habits are prudent, and you have a secure source of income, then this one will more than likely pass you by as far as the financial issues are concerned, but he might give you pause about your recreational activities or other frivolities.

The next thing to consider is the Full Moon/lunar eclipse on February 9. This is the companion to the solar eclipse that occurred on January 26. The solar eclipse usually stirs up an event or some occurrence for us to look at, hard, and then the lunar eclipse drives our emotional reaction to it and how we implement the lesson into our experience base. If the lunar eclipse comes before the solar, as it sometimes does, then our emotions often drive us to the event instead of vice versa. At any rate, the solar eclipse in January occurred in Aquarius, your 7th House of relationships, and if your birthday is within a week either way of July 29 you probably felt it. If not, it could still stir something up since solar eclipses can linger astrologically for as long as a year. This month on the 9th the eclipse is in Leo, and if you were born within a week either way of August 14 you are quite likely to feel it, though hitting your natal Sun is not a criteria. Lunar eclipses can last as long as six months. The generic description for the eclipse is that it would be relatively "gentle" and would most likely relate to changing our group associations in some way and could also tend us through deepening the commitment is one or more relationships. This theme ties in very well with the house placement of this pair of eclipses, so give your circle of friends and associates some thought as well as your relationships to see what occurred. If nothing has happened, but you feel as if you should be proactive in initiating a change in your associations or a relationship, then maybe you'd better get to it.

Last but not least is good ol' Pluto who's now settled into Capricorn for the long-haul. This is your 6th House of work, and if you know anything about Pluto, then you know that he bears some resemblance to a figurative back-hoe. During the time while he's there, which will be of long duration (late 2024, if I'm not mistaken) he'll be unearthing all sorts of interesting things relative to your job and health which are going to necessitate various attitude and physical adjustments in these areas of your life. If your birthday is within a day or so of July 25 you can expect to see some signs of this influence this month, though as long as he's in Capricorn all Leos will see it to some degree or another. Your awareness of power plays in the workplace will be heightened as well.

Short-term Aspects

Venus goes into Aries, your 9th House of legal matters, long distance travel, relocation, academia and beliefs on February 3rd. This is a pretty nice place for Venus, though she's usually quite welcome just about anywhere. This should bring some favorable things your way in this area. On the 5th someone you're close to may cause some friction about something in that area and there's also the possibility that a money issue may come up at work. Stepping back a day to the 4th, Mars goes into Aquarius on that day, which is your 7th House of relationships. This may evoke a few arguments or conflicts in your relationships or any negotiations this month. On the 7th be particularly alert for deception on the job which is likely to result in a confrontation as the truth comes out. There's also the possibility that this could relate to your health, in which case a hidden problem may finally surface such that it can be treated, which wouldn't be a bad thing. Adjustments in a relationship due to a false start or money issues is out there on the 8th. The 9th should be interesting as an unexpected event causes you to view a close relationship in a different way. The Full Moon/lunar eclipse is also that day and as you recall, also relates to relationships, so there's a heavy emphasis on this part of your life this month.

Relationship issues may cause more financial adjustments from the 11th - 12th as more unexpected events or disruptions unfold. Once more look out for deception from someone close to you, or as this continues over the next few days you may feel a threat to your identity as someone tries to dismiss your view of something. On the 16th more hidden information will come out, but it looks like opportunities to expand a relationships are there as well. On the 17th, if you're having an ongoing argument or disagreement with someone, today will probably see it escalate. The Sun goes into Pisces on the 18th, which will shift emphasis from your relationships to your 8th House of sex, death, transformations, and other people's money. Getting along with members of the opposite sex is favored on the 18th, even though some annoying news of a financial nature may cause some changes of plan about the same time. Expect more unexpected news or disruptions on the 20th, with a lot more insights and opportunities for personal transformation on the 21st. More big news is likely on the 24th and on the 25th the New Moon will emphasize whatever is going on even further as someone close to you brings some positive thoughts to consider.

Between the 27th - 28th more hidden information will come to the surface, perhaps in a very direct manner with the month ending with more changes and adjustments to previous plans. This is likely to be a very hectic month with a lot of involvement with those close to you or with whom you have a one-on-one relationship. These events will have a lasting effect that are going to expand your experience in some way. Be sure to get plenty of rest and take care of yourself as months that are heavily tied into relationship issues tend to be a bit stressful.
