Lunations and Long Term Aspects

Over the next few months there are some long-term aspects to be aware of so that you can use the energy in a productive manner as opposed to fighting against it, which is always an exercise in futility when dealing with a planet.  Pluto may have been demoted to a dwarf planet, but he's out to prove that in the astrological world size definitely does NOT matter and compared to us lowly humans, he is quite capable of having his way with us regardless of what title the astronomical community may bestow upon him.  It's particularly interesting to note that now that he's back in Capricorn, the Zodiacal 10th House that comprises government, chief executives, CEOs, officials in general, and so forth, that he's truly doing his roto-rooter routine exposing all sorts of things previously kept out of the public eye.

In addition to being in Cappy again, this time to stay for a long, long time, he is currently squaring your Sign Ruler, Saturn, who's cruising along in Libra, your 10th House of career, status, public image and so forth.  This square was exact on November 15, will be exact again on January 31, 2010 due to Saturn's retrograde motion, then the square will remain in orb until mid-March.  Pluto goes retrograde in April, thus bringing back the square between July 22 - September 16, 2010.  This harsh aspect between two "bad boy" planets is nothing to celebrate, but rest assured that Cappies are much better equipped to handle it than others, largely because you're already used to dealing with Saturn.  Furthermore, he's hanging out in your 10th House, which Cappy rules zodiacally, as noted earlier.  Therefore, this is familiar ground all around.

Putting this all together in the Readers' Digest version comes out that various personal transformations resulting from Pluto in your 1st House of personality are going to bring about some challenges with respect to your 10th House which includes your career, reputation, status and public image.  Those who will feel this the strongest are those with birthdays between December 23 - 28, which includes yours truly.  I can hardly contain my enthusiasm.

So what can you (actually we, since I was born December 25) expect from this?  Putting it simply, Pluto tears things apart so that anything corrupt can be exposed and cleansed while Saturn is in the business of building and structuring, laying foundations and defining boundaries.  This can be a formidable pair that will have life-changing results.  This won't be a cake walk but it will bring about circumstances and motivations that will ultimately be quite useful.  The Pluto transit itself is going to help you get to know yourself better than ever before.  It will also help resolve old issues you may have been ignoring for years.  Depending on what you're toting around it could result in an identity crisis.  Pluto can function as the refiner's fire, burning away that which is keeping you from being yourself.  Pluto is all for getting rid of those things in our life that no longer have a purpose, especially if they're holding us back in some manner.   A good way to get into this transit is to do some serious housecleaning, particularly in areas where you've stashed things away rather than dealing with them directly.  Cleaning out the basement, garage, attic, and closets is an excellent way to jump-start things and while you're going through all that old stuff, it's likely to trigger memories that could lead you down the path to old issues that are waiting to be eliminated as well.  Often attaching our emotional issues to a material object and tossing it away is very cathartic.

One thing that is particularly symbolic about this transit as far as Cappies are concerned is getting your personality in synch with your public image.  If you're one person in public and an entirely different one in private, now is the time to think about that.  This is a time when full disclosure may be effected, like it or not.  Another thing that Pluto has been known to do is put you in a position where you are forced to walk away from everything and start over.  It may be dramatic, such as through a fire, hurricane, tornado, earthquake or what-have-you, or you may simply be motivated to do so willingly.  Pluto is apt to say "Enough of this crap!" and push you off the proverbial cliff, but this is certainly not always necessary.  However, if you find yourself in that position, the last thing you need to do is go into a pity party.  In fact, you may be the one saying "Enough!" and marching out the door voluntarily.  If your life isn't what you'd like it to be you will have plenty of energy to get it moving in a new direction, though you should be aware of any destruction you cause along the way and minimize it where those you care about are concerned.

That Pluto - Sun conjunction is going to unearth all sorts of ego and power issues.  You are likely to be more annoyed than usual at authority figures who discipline you or hold you back, particularly with that Saturn square.  As Pluto strips away your façades, making you more genuine and honest, Saturn will be reworking how this manifests in the world.  As you transform to a different person, you will quite naturally be drawn to a new career or other endeavor.  Remember that the 10th House includes status, which can involve a plethora of ways we're viewed by the world.  Think of any titles or labels you'd attach to yourself, e.g. college graduate, parent, property owner, business owner, licensed driver, master gardener, community leader, and so forth, then think about whether you manifest them in a positive or negative manner.

The next nine months or so are going to be a tremendous time of growth.  It could be difficult, but not always if you're engaging the energy and not fighting against it or ignoring it.  If it's kicking your butt, it's a good time for therapy.  If you're the self-help type, Bil Tierney's book "Alive and Well with Pluto: Transits of Heart and Soul" is worth reading.  Above all, remember that a Pluto transit is a time of rebirth.  By the time you get to the other side, you'll have a whole new appreciation for the phoenix.

Another astrological influence that will be out there for several months is Mars retrograde, something that only happens every two years and two months, which is a somewhat awkward cycle.  This cycle begins on December 20 and lasts until March 10, though the "shadow" period will be in effect until May 17, which is when Mars will return to the zodiacal degree where he went RX.  This is the point where things should be mostly resolved and you can move on to other endeavors.  Mars RX tends to make you more reactive as opposed to active and flush out unresolved conflict, particularly that pertaining to the house he's occupying.  In this case, this is Leo, your 8th House of transformation.  Ha!  How convenient!  This puts him in cahoots with Pluto, even though the two of them aren't actually in a Ptolemaic aspect since Pluto is the ruler of the zodiacal 8th House which comprises sex, death & regeneration, debt, shared resources, transformations, inheritances and even taxes.  Leo is all about ego definition on the zodiacal level, as is the Sun, so this will definitely be reinforcing that Pluto/Sun transit like a dose of cosmic steroids.

However, the Mars RX cycle is likely to unearth something very specific.  This transit will have the most influence on those of you born between December 22 - January 11 and will effect an adjustment or change of direction.  Whatever this issue happens to be it is likely to come to a head around January 29 with the rest of the retrograde period spent taking care of business.

So, as if that's not enough to think about, let's take a look at what December's lunations have in store.  The Full Moon on December 2 takes place in Gemini, your 6th House of work, health and pets.  A Full Moon typically heralds an ending or culmination, meaning something in that area of your life could reach a milestone and shift to the next level.  With your 6th House in Gemini you're inclined to have more than one occupational endeavor which could be two actual jobs or a career coupled with something else that takes a considerable amount of your time, whether it's a hobby, avocation, or volunteer work.  If there is anything about these endeavors that isn't satisfying or grates against you in any manner whatsoever, you're going to want to escape from it, perhaps abruptly.  This may be because you realize that you've been working too hard and need to find some time for yourself or pursue something more enjoyable.  Working strictly for a paycheck doing something that doesn't bring you satisfaction or some sense of accomplishment or doing something because you "should" are likely to wind up on the chopping block, especially considering all the other astrological action out there that spells significant, transformational change.

The New Moon on December 16 is in Sagittarius, your 12th House of transcendence, spirituality, inspiration, confinement, institutions, dreams, hidden enemies, self-undoing, and enlightenment.  That is obviously quite a mixed bag, but also fits in rather well with all the transformational energy since true change needs to begin at the spiritual/soul level.  This New Moon will bring something new into you life, though it may not be tangible.  It could bring something you way that provides an escape of some sort or offers some other sort of pleasurable activity that has a healing effect.  This could come about in a sudden or disruptive manner, yet this is one of those cases where you make lemonade if life hands you a lemon.  There are definitely opportunities out there to get to know and love yourself in a new way that will assist you along that path of change.  Look for them, accept them for what they are, and make any necessary adjustments to make them so.

We have an extra Full Moon this month that is also a Lunar Eclipse, a New Year's present from the Universe with a bit of extra punch.  This will occur on December 31 if you live in North or South America and on January 1 if you live in Australia and that side of the world which is always a step ahead.  This eclipse is a member of the family known as 12 North in the Saros Series which according to eclipse guru, Bernadette Brady, will bring new responsibilities your way, probably due to the fact that someone else is unable to do so.  This eclipse occurs in Cancer, your polar sign and 7th House of relationships so this implies that someone close to you will be the one handing off or in need of assistance.  Whatever circumstances this brings will undoubtedly further contribute to the growth and progression the Universe has on your agenda, like it or not.  At this time both Mars and Mercury are retrograde, implying the need to re-think, re-plan, reconsider, and revise your thoughts about something.  This eclipse will have the most impact on those of you born within a few days of January 1st, though everyone will feel it to some degree.

Short Term Aspects

December 1:  An excellent day for some inspiration that will bring more peace and harmony into your life.  If you've been working too hard, take a break to enjoy a good movie, music or something else that will help you escape for a few hours.  Venus goes into Sagittarius, further enhancing you ability to find something beautiful to feed your soul today.

December 2:  Full Moon today as described above.

December 4:  Opportunities to enhance your reputation or status in the community, particularly through some sort of service, are particularly strong.

December 5:  Mercury goes into Capricorn, which will enhance your thinking and communication ability at a very personal level.  This is also a good day to give serious consideration to anything related to your career or public image you might be unsatisfied with.

December 7:  If you didn't figure out what you need to work on relative to your career or reputation yet, it's likely to become obvious today.  Deep insights and a strong desire to leave something old behind that is no longer serving you will get your attention one way or another.

December 8:  News or thoughts of a transformational nature are highly likely.  Don't take any unnecessary chances today, particularly while driving or if using sharp objects.

December 10:  You may convince yourself you want something more luxurious than you really need.  You aren't typically extravagant or foolish with your spending, but the possibility is there today.  You also may enjoy a major brainstorm that gets you all fired up.  Enjoy it for what it's worth, but don't throw a lot of money at it because it's likely to come to naught or be overcome by events prior to coming to fruition.

December 11:  Something could cause some money or some other valuable to disappear.  Lock your door, car, and hold onto your wallet.

December 14:  Something disruptive related to your neighbors or siblings could occur or you may encounter a strong sense of rebellion or need to break away.  Your ego and needs will be inflated, so don't do anything rash.

December 15:  Another good day to take care of yourself and escape the stress in your life, if only for a short while.

December 16:  New Moon today as described above.

December 17:  Interactions with members of the opposite sex should go well today.  This is also a good day to think about what you really want in life and how to get there.

December 19:  Something unexpected, perhaps to do with money, is possible.  It could be as simple as someone asking for a donation for a worthy cause.

December 20:  Mars goes retrograde today as described above.  Another good day to indulge yourself, at least as far as your need to escape is concerned.  Inspiration will be profuse, so take advantage of it however you see fit.

December 21:  The Sun goes into Capricorn today, bringing light and emphasis to you at a personal level.  A new cycle is beginning with the inspiration still available if you tune in and listen.  New or thoughts that will require some adjustments or a course change are also likely.

December 24:  Deep insights, power trips, resistance to authority or even obsessive excursions into your past are possible, especially if today is your birthday.

December 25:  Venus goes into Capricorn, a rather nice Christmas present from the Universe, which will enhance your charm and even your appearance.  Exploit it for all it's worth!  This somewhat compensates for some of the other stuff out there, such as major ruminations relative to your career, status or reputation and any needed changes of a transformational nature.

December 26:  Mercury goes retrograde today, starting a three week period good for re-thinking, reconsidering, and revising any personal plans.

December 27:  Issues related to your career or status that require change will be on your mind again/still.  Encounters with authority figures could really get you fired up, so if something along those lines comes along, count to ten or as high as necessary to keep your temper in check or it may not end well.

December 28:  A good day to think about, or better yet make a list, those things you like about yourself.  Romantic encounters are also likely to be very intense.  If you have a significant other or romantic partner, plan a special evening as it's likely to be very memorable.

December 29:  What you'd like to do versus what you have to or should do will be in conflict today.  Think about why this is the case and what you can do to rectify it.

December 30:  Being too idealistic or unrealistic, at least for you, are possibilities.  You also may have to cancel plans for something you'd wanted to to do relax or some other pleasantry might disappear for one reason or another.

December 31:  Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse as described above.
