This month is substantially quieter astrologically
compared to last month when we have three planets change
directions. The main long-term aspect out there is a sextile
between Saturn and Neptune, which implies opportunities to
restructure your dreams. What you want the most out of life
changes as you evolve as a person. What may be important at
one phase of life often fades with time to be replaced by new
concerns and aspirations. Long-term aspects between outer
planets give you plenty of time to think about such things.
Neptune brings inspiration, connection with your subconscious
mind and Higher Power. Saturn while retrograde is a time for
ruminating on something that needs to be restructured. This
will usually be at the subconscious level, so don't be
surprised if you have a feeling of anticipation or unrest, yet
can't quite identify its source. When Saturn stations direct
in September this should become apparent, if not before. NEW MOON The New Moon this month on 4/5 May, depending on which part of the globe you reside upon, is in Taurus. This lunation has quite a bit of action implied, in spite of it being a Fixed sign that tends to eschew change. Mars in Gemini tends to stir up the mental side of things. You may have numerous ideas that you're impatient to bring to fruition or be too quick to defend your current ones, perhaps aggressively. I have definitely seen this on the website Quora where I've had at least one "discussion" with someone who went on and on arguing their point which was supposed to express a scientific point of view, yet it was no more than unsubstantiated opinion. If you encounter such a situation, you might want to consider the adage "New argue with an idiot--people may not be able to tell the difference." Yes, Taurus can be stubborn, sometimes to a fault. This is a time to be as objective as possible, consider other opinions, and if nothing else allow others to believe what they will, even if you think they're crazy for doing so. There are usually two sides to any argument as well as far too many unknowns about our world making it a target-rich environment for disagreements. Many situations are not black and white, but lost in multiple shades of grey. Science cannot answer all questions. For example, if you're reading this it implies you have some level of belief in astrology, which many consider to be nothing but myth and superstition. A true scientist, however, should be able to admit that we do not have all the answers. Our technology is not yet advanced enough to detect every influence. They have come a long way in admitting to the existence of other dimensions we cannot see. Clearly, astrology resides in one of them. We do have some facts, however, that I believe are refutable, one of which I can't resist pointing out, and that is that the Earth is NOT flat. But if someone wants to ignore facts and evidence to the contrary and still believe it is, that is really their choice. There's always the chance that our existence is similar to that in the Matrix movies. You can rarely be 100% certain of just about anything, yet everyone is going to be more inclined to defend their opinions in a potentially emotional manner with Mars in Gemini. Be selective and make sure it's worth your time and energy, whichever side of the issue you're on. Mars is quincunx Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn, which suggests the need for change or adjustment which could be forced by either an authority figure or someone in a position of power. In other words, you can make all the noise you want, but some sort of shift of direction is going to be required. Jupiter retrograde is opposing Mars from Sagittarius, which is a call for balance. Jupiter retrograde tends to relate to ethics issues, so it's a call to examine what is going on in the context or right and wrong. Jupiter, in turn, is getting a lot of noise from Mercury in Aries, a placement that reminds me of the saying "the squeaky wheel gets the oil." In other words, those making the most noise will be getting the attention. Both sides should be willing to listen and compromise as appropriate in the harsh light of right and wrong, as noted earlier. The square between Mars and Neptune suggests that some or all of what's under discussion may be inaccurate, too idealistic, or delusional. No matter how badly you want something, if it's not based on reality, don't expect others to support it. All of this comes back to that Neptune-Saturn call for restructuring, redefining, and getting all your ducks in a row. Sometimes when your mistakes or misunderstandings are pointed out, the person is doing you a favor so you can change direction before you wind up somewhere you really didn't foresee. FULL MOON The Full Moon on 18 May in Scorpio lightens things up a bit, at least as far as the aspects are concerned. The energy exchanges are easier, though this does not always indicate it will manifest in a positive manner, depending on the situation. If nothing else, remember that Scorpio is a passionate, emotional sign. It's modern ruler if Pluto, which certainly can have a dark side, and the traditional ruler is Mars, which is at this time in the sign of his fall. This lends a certain intensity to this lunation that will color anything else going on. At this point Mars has gone into Cancer, sign of his fall. This placement tends to produce temper tantrums, either figuratively or literally, when your drive is frustrated. Rather than a rational response, often it's entirely emotional. Mars is sextile Uranus and Venus, both in Taurus, which is a good example of a supposedly favorable aspect that can go south. As noted, Mars is reacting emotionally and Uranus is the planet of disruptions, surprises, unexpected events, disturbances, and sudden change. This is rather volatile, to say the least. Venus in Taurus, however, is in dignity as its ruler. She likes her comforts and could bring some luck to the situation. Thus, before letting Mars get out of hand, think positive because whatever changes come along could actually be to your advantage. What comes to mind here is perhaps missing out on something that would have turned out poorly. The Sun and Mercury are conjunct, bringing a fair amount of mental energy into this with regard to whatever Taurus represents in your chart. You can find that at the table above where it says which house this lunation occurs in. This conjunction is trining the Saturn - Pluto conjunction in Capricorn. Both are Earth Signs, suggesting practicality and security. As noted earlier, Saturn is a retrograde and relates to restructuring which Pluto tends to relate to resolving old issues, eliminating things you no longer need, and figurative death and rebirth. What do you need to do to bring more stability and security into your life? The square between Jupiter and Neptune suggests conflicts where something is delusional, deceptive, or unrealistic versus the rule of law or other ethical considerations. It also can apply to political ideologies that are too extreme. The world is a bit of a hot mess these days, but there are no easy answers. However, in some cases the right thing to do is clear for those who have a moral compass that is functioning properly. Mercury is quincunx Jupiter, suggesting a change of course that is perhaps based on that very thing. Perhaps this is one of those WWJD situations, for those of you who recall that acronym from many years past. OTHER COSMIC EVENTSThere aren't any to speak of this month. No new planets are stationing retrograde or direct and the ingress of the Sun into Gemini later this month does not mark a new season. Thus, there isn't much worth mentioning, other than the fact the distribution of the planets throughout the zodiac continues to be quite lopsided. For the New Moon there are six empty signs (Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, and Aquarius) and for the Full Moon there are also six (Aries, Gemini, Leo, Virgo, Libra, and Aquarius).
