NEW MOON 

The New Moon this month on 7 December is in Sagittarius. Sagittarius is a sign that represents higher thought, philosophy, social issues, and cultural practices. Combine this with the house matters noted above for some idea what kind of energy to expect. For this lunation the Sun, Moon, and Jupiter, ruler of Sagittarius, are all in that sign, providing a lot of energy. However, it's getting a fair share of conflict coming from Pisces where Mars and Neptune are conjunct and squaring the New Moon. This conjunction is especially strong because the two planets are not only in the same zodiacal degree within less than 1/4 degree but also in the same declination, which is the distance above the horizon. In other words, if Neptune were visible with the naked eye, these two would be on top of one another in the sky. When zodiacal degree and declination both match, the energy is extremely strong. This is why eclipses pack such a wallop. Mars is somewhat lost in Pisces, but Neptune is its modern ruler. What I see coming from this, however, is a certain measure of confusion and possibly delusions. Mars is the planet that provides energy and motivation, but he's swimming around in a water sign with its ruler. I compare this to trying to light a match under water or someone who isn't much of a swimmer hanging out with a dolphin. This in itself is enough discordant energy without conflicting with the New Moon, which may be trying to bring some philosophical meaning. It will wind up like trying to read through glasses that are smeared up with dirt, dust, and fingerprints meaning it will be distorted and unclear.

Mercury has barely stationed direct approximately ten hours before. He's in Scorpio quincunx Uranus in Aries, suggesting the need for a change of course, perhaps a dramatic one. Scorpio is passionate by nature and Aries impulsive. Aries is ruled by Mars, over there trying to tread water in Pisces, and Scorpio was ruled anciently by Mars. However as a fire sign and water sign, these energies are quite different, one creative and one more emotional. Getting together in a basically unstable configuration suggests thoughts could be slightly out of whack and require some adjustments or may be a Catch-22. This fit well with the square afflicting the lunation, that whatever comes of it is likely to have some significant flaws that require modification.

Venus, Saturn, and Pluto are all unaspected in their respective signs which tends to make them wildcards. Venus is in debility in Scorpio where she is still functioning as the Morning Star or Goddess of War. Whatever she wants could become an obsession for which she's willing to fight. She is a beautiful sight in the pre-dawn sky, however, so if you're inclined to be up early, you might want to take some time to meditate on her and what she's trying to tell you. Saturn is in dignity in Capricorn where he's available to provide discipline and responsibility. It's that time to be thinking about New Years Resolution and he might help you actually implement them. Saturn and Pluto are not conjunct by zodiacal degree but they are parallel by declination. Pluto can help you take control, particularly if you have anything you want to get rid of, such as bad habits. Just make sure that you use this energy in a positive way. If you aren't thinking clearly, which is possible, you may decide to go after something that simply isn't what's best. Hopefully, Saturn and Pluto will provide some discernment to keep you on track.

FULL MOON

The Full Moon is on 22 December in Cancer. Cancer is a very emotional sign ruled by the Moon, so she's in her home sign. Her energies can trigger memories and remind you of connections with loved ones or emotional experiences related to the house in which she occurs as noted above. This energy feeds into the holiday season quite comfortably. However, with Jupiter and Mercury are conjunct in Sagittarius and squaring Neptune, this pair could bring some big but delusional ideas and thoughts. Idealism in particular is possible. Jupiter and Mercury are both semisextile Saturn, however, which will bring some annoying facts to bear. Venus is trining Neptune, increasing the possibility of inspiration and deciding to pursue something with a passion, but again, this could be impractical at best and foolish at worst. It's best not to make any critical decisions at this time without assessing them very carefully with a huge dose of logic and practicality. The Sun, Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn can provide that, if you tune into it.

OTHER COSMIC EVENTS

As noted earlier, Mercury stations direction on 6 December in Scorpio. The aspects for the station are almost the same as the New Moon except the Moon hasn't quite reached the degree of the Sun. Instead, she is at the midpoint of the Sun and Jupiter, which actually will give her quite an emotional boost, then further pushed forward by the New Moon. As always Mercury retrograde is a time to rethink and reconsider something but not so great for starting a new endeavor. Thus, if during that time from 16 November until 6 December you were thinking or pondering something, at this point you should start to figure things out. That quincunx to Uranus suggests that your final decision is likely to be slightly different than you may have expected. Uranus can also bring disruptions and unexpected events or information that may likewise cause a change. There's not an easy flow of energy out there these days which suggests various challenges and false starts, so do your best to go with the flow and don't expect too much to work out as expected to avoid disappointment.
