Full Moon

This month's Full Moon on 10 February is also a lunar eclipse which will be visible over much of the western hemisphere at some point since they last much longer than solar eclipses. This also gives it a stronger influence than the typical Full Moon, including extending its duration. Sometimes eclipse effects even occur before the eclipse itself. Weird, I know, but astrology is full of surprises. Actually, this year is going to be full of surprises, at least on the mundane scene. If you think the protests and demonstrations are going away anytime soon, think again, because they are just getting started. Eris, the minor planet just beyond Pluto, is named for the goddess of discord and she represents immigrants, minorities, and factions given to making a fuss. She is hanging out astrologically in Aries with Uranus, planet that rules rebellion, breaking away, freedom, surprises, sudden change and even explosions. Mars is in Aries, the sign he rules, too, so this is quite a trio, all of whom are prone to stirring things up. Thus, pay close attention to the house placement noted in the table above and watch for something of note to occur in this part of your life.

Eris and Uranus are positioned for this lunar eclipse such that they are holding down a corner of an aspect pattern known as a Mystic Rectangle with the Sun, Moon and Jupiter. I tend to see this configuration as an either/or indicator since two oppositions are involved as well as two trines and two sextiles. The trines and sextiles are an easier flow of energy and help mitigate the oppositions. The Sun and Moon comprising the eclipse are one opposition, representing typically your conscious mind versus your emotions. With the Moon in Leo, this is likely to represent a fair dose of egocentrism, or what you want with little regard to others. Also note that lunar eclipses tend to operate on the emotional level. The Jupiter - Uranus opposition is another story. Jupiter in Libra, sign that rules fairness, balance, and relationships, not only exaggerates these qualities but suggests the rule of law as the ruler of Sagittarius, the zodiacal 9th house. Uranus, as noted earlier, relates to rebellions and so forth, so you can see how this also represents opposing forces.

Another aspect pattern involved in this eclipse is a Grand Fire Trine that includes Uranus, the Moon and Saturn. While a Fire Trine is prone to getting a lot of attention, the emotional upset potential represented by the Moon and Uranus is cover slightly by stiff, conservative and no-nonsense Saturn, whose determined to keep things under control. Saturn's sextile from Jupiter enhances his stuffy influence, which he'll probably need to maintain order, instill a sense of responsibility as well as limitations and boundaries. Being in Sagittarius gives Saturn a bit more fire than he has naturally, so authority figures will be making more noise than usual as well. Also gracing this eclipse is a Cardinal T-square that involves the Jupiter - Uranus opposition with both squaring Pluto, which brings in a heavy dose of control and dominion, a possibly heavy hand toward any conflict. Thus, there may be a fair amount of fireworks, but deadlocks are likely.

Mercury is sextile Venus, also hanging out in Aries, which looks favorable for communications in relationships or with regard to comforts, money, income and so forth. So at least there's something going on out there to hopefully negotiate, but it looks as if it will have to be an arbitrator, someone as far removed as possible from those involved in the confrontation. Of course it's not too difficult to see how this is playing out in the world around you, but take a close look at your own life for how this may be playing out in in your life as a micro-version.

New Moon

The New Moon on 26 February is a solar eclipse in Pisces, so it's a bit of a whopper as well. For one thing, Pisces is not exactly what you'd call the most realistic sign of the zodiac. It's the sign of the dreamer, idealist, illusionist, deceiver, and martyr, to name a few. Mercury has moved into Pisces, which is the sign of his fall where his ability to function in a rational, fact-checking manner is inhibited, which doesn't help. Neptune is there for the long-haul, so there's a lot of energy that may not be exactly grounded in reality. Furthermore, Mars, Uranus and Eris are in a triple conjunction in Aries, which looks tremendously volatile. Those of you with birthdays affected by the Full Moon as noted above are most likely to feel this stellium one way or another. The three of them opposing Jupiter looks like a rather big confrontation and to make it even more interesting, Pluto is still squaring the others in that T-square present for the Lunar Eclipse. Which is the only aspect pattern present for the Solar version.

This looks to me as if anything stirred up at the emotional level by the Lunar Eclipse is going to really hit the fan with the Solar. In other words, all that irrational energy is going to find easy expression in potential violence. The T-square with Pluto at the apex suggests a struggle to maintain power and control between opposing forces. Saturn is trining this somewhat unfriendly trio which suggests that the hand of authority may be able to deal with things, though it's possible that they may also side with those making all the racket in this case. Given the state of the world, this should prove to be interesting, but look for analogs in your personal life as well, starting with the natural house noted above.

OTHER COSMIC EVENTS

There has been nearly a month, from 8 January until 6 February, when all the planets were in direct motion, which is somewhat unusual. This ends on the 6th when Jupiter stations retrograde. Jupiter, as you recall, is highly involved with the two eclipses. When a planet stations, it infuses a lot of energy into that degree, which could ignite a spark in a powder keg. This station occurs BEFORE either eclipse, so, given that, it looks as if whatever is going on here ultimately only stirs the pot. Jupiter relates to belief systems and when retrograde often addresses ethics issues and violations. Accusations of such are a dime a dozen these days. At this point, Jupiter and Saturn are sextile, suggesting a comfortable flow of energy between them, especially with Saturn in Sagittarius, which Jupiter rules, and Jupiter in Libra, where Saturn is exalted. The correspondence between them should be relatively fruitful, plus Saturn is in touch with Uranus and Eris, perhaps keeping them reined in. At least until the Lunar Eclipse, which is likely to kick a few things off at the emotional level, with it looking like the ones making all the noise will eventually prevail later in the month.

If your birthday is right around March 14, as noted above for peak influence from the lunar eclipse, you'll also be affected by Jupiter's station retrograde on 6 February. This occurs from Libra, your 8th house of transformations, debt, intense experiences, sex, death and rebirth. He's opposing Uranus in Aries, your 2nd house of income, finances, needs, comforts, pleasures and what you value, which could be a bit troublesome. Uranus brings all sorts of disruptions and surprises plus he's hanging out with Mars and Eris, neither of which are exactly helpful. Venus is there as well, where she is accidentally dignified, except Aries is a sign of her debility so she's more of a warrior goddess than the goddess of love. This implies lots of disruptions and issues which are going to affect you at a deep level and probably bring some level of transformation your way. Taking responsibility is advised, since Saturn is in your 10th house of status and career where he can help get things organized and dealt with in an appropriate manner.
