The first notable astrological even this month is that Mercury stations retrograde on October 4.  This is not usually something to celebrate since it is often accompanied by breakdowns, computer and cell phone glitches, traffic jams and other niceties that make life a hassle.  This occurs in fellow Fixed Sign, Scorpio, your 10th house of career, reputation, public image and status.  If your birthday is right around January 22 this station will square you Sun which suggests you may feel it more strongly than others.  If this is not your birthday you are not necessarily "safe" since you may have another planet being affected.  The thing to remember here is that Mercury RX serves a purpose, just like all other retrograde planets, and the trick is to learn what it's good for and put it to good use rather than fight against it, a battle which are you are sure to lose.

So what's it good for?  Lots of things such as rethinking, reconsidering, reassessing, refining, redesigning, editing and just about anything else with a "re" in front of it.  Doing something again, perhaps to correct a prior mistake, is the general theme and in this case it starts in your career and status house then backs into your 9th house which includes beliefs, expectations, philosophy of life, higher education, legal matters, other cultures, long-distance travel and relocation.  Perhaps there is something about your attitude toward your career or status which needs to be redefined.  That, at least, is one place to start.  Recognize that anything started at this time is likely to be a flop.  New endeavors are not favored and, as you probably know, purchasing something of an electronic or mechanical nature is a bad ideas, also.  Especially big ticket items like cars.  Unless you enjoy being stuck with a lemon, don't go there.  If your existing automobile conks out on you, which is very common during this time, rent one if necessary until this spell is over or forever hold your peace. 

Any new endeavor or purchase is imprinted with the energy of the moment as reflected in its horoscope and if something is related to movement or communications or information and has Mercury RX present it will be a mess.  The last Mercury RX my webhosting company who will remain nameless but is a rather large, well-known one you've undoubtedly heard of and begins with the letter "Y" was reworking the email servers.  I won't go into the trainwreck that turned out to be.  It was so bad that I almost changed companies except they managed to get things straightened out before I made up my mind.  Obviously making a change during that time would have been ill-advised as well.

Right around this same time a Grand Fire Trine is forming which is likely to bring some interesting things with a lot of energy.  Mars is in Sagittarius, your 11th house of friends, goals, organizations, groups, hopes and wishes.  Mars tends to bring a lot of action and energy which you can put to work in this area, also realizing that this may involve redoing something as opposed to a new activity thanks to Mercury RX.  Uranus is in Aries, your 3rd house of thoughts, ideas, siblings, neighbors and local travel which could be bringing a variety of disruptions to this part of your life though breakthroughs are also possible and flashes of brilliance in the thought department.  Your siblings or neighbors acting erratic is another possibility.  The final component in this cosmic trio is Jupiter in Leo, your polar sign and 7th house close relationships which includes your significant other, close friends and relatives, business partners, business professionals, competitors and open enemies.  All three of these houses involve people which suggests a lot of interactions in this area.  This is an excellent time to meet up with old friends or get around to doing something you should have done a long time ago or finishing up an old project.  You may also find that some people in one category may migrate to another, though this may not be a permanent situation given the state of Mercury.  It would be a great time to resolve old issues relative to communications and the like.  This Grand Fire Trine is in effect for approximately the first ten days of the month.  Maybe.

I say maybe because on October 8 the Full Moon is also a Lunar Eclipse which makes it stronger and increases its staying power, sometimes for months.  Since the Grand Fire Trine is present for the lunation it could be dragged along with this longevity as well as the Mercury RX portion, though this could simply grant you more time which could be a good thing.  The Moon is conjunct Uranus and the Sun just upstream from Venus and also forming a sextile pattern with Mars and Jupiter from your 9th house of beliefs, expectations, and so forth as defined earlier since this is where Mercury stations direct.  This suggests that whatever is going on will relate back to your beliefs, attitude or opinion in some manner.  This will give some extra impetus to that Grand Trine.  Saturn is in your 10th house of career and has been for quite a while.  Jupiter is forming a square to Saturn which could bring additional responsibility your way, perhaps through the expansion of a relationship.  This may be a challenge but not necessarily a bad thing.  It could be something like a promotion but Mercury RX doesn't bode well for its permanence. 

The New Moon on October 23 is a solar eclipse which is only a partial eclipse.  Nonetheless, it's visible according to the path you can see in the map on the eclipse map page here.  Those who live in an area below the eclipse path are more likely to feel its effects.  The eclipse occurs in Scorpio, your 10th house of career and status as also defined earlier.  Mercury is still retrograde so be sure to factor that in.  Saturn and Venus are in Scorpio as well with the possibility of more responsibility still a possibility.  This may be a time when you are reassessing a situation or offer that relates to this part of your life.  Rethinking, research and ruminating are all favored, especially if this is something that's been around for a while.  Mercury RX is an excellent time to go back and clean up old messes, particularly when they involve communications.

Mercury stations direct from fellow Air Sign, Libra, on October 25.  This will trine your natal Sun if your birthday is right around February 5.  Responsibility increases are still implied with relationship implications as well.  With Pluto in your 12th house which includes your subconscious this is an excellent time to deal with old issues that may be lurking there, especially those that involve your beliefs and expectations as well as people like your siblings or neighbors.  Inspiration and insights are available if you look for them and may relate back to any personal needs which could use some attention.  The shadow period lasts until November 11 which is when Mercury will finally reach the point where he went RX, allowing things to move forward once again.  If you can postpone any actions until that time they'll have a slightly better chance of success but any time after Mercury stations direct will be better than when he's RX.
