Lunations and Long-term Aspects

The New Moon this month is on September 5th in nextdoor neighboring sign, Virgo, your 2nd house of income, possessions, finances, needs, comforts, pleasures and things you value.  This is also the house that includes your body, your most important possession.  This lunation should bring something new in this part of your life or perhaps a new cycle.  The lunation is tied into various other planets via several closed loop aspect patterns which distribute that energy to other areas of your life.  This can help mitigate that T-square that's out there and possibly stirring things up a bit.  The most enduring part of it is that square between Uranus and Pluto which will be in effect on and off until 2015.  Currently it is "on" with the next exact hit due November 1.  Outer planets define the themes our your life which extend over a period of years.  With Pluto in Capricorn, your 6th house of work, health, service and pets, you can expect a complete transformation of this part of your life during this transit which will last for several years.  And I mean several in that I'm talking about 2024, farther out there than most of us care about except, of course, planning for retirement or college for the kids. 

Pluto is all about power, control, exposing corruption and getting rid of those things you no longer need.  Remember when such energy is lurking in some part of your life unless you use it, it will use you.  This is a call to take control of this part of your life.  If your birthday is right around August 2nd Pluto is quincunx your natal Sun and nudging you toward a change of course.  If you're in the wrong job then it's time to determine what you want to be when you grow up (see our "Career" section for ideas or consider a career reading.)  You may be perceived by others as on a power trip (which may indeed be the case) or you may attract such individuals.  You may find yourself dealing with Plutonian themes and if you're in a job such as research, auditing, forensics or investigations this will be very helpful for uncovering hidden information or secrets.  In Capricorn much of this energy will be focused on areas ruled by that sign such as government and corporations.  Think about that one and the news lately.  If you can't see Pluto at work in those venues then it's time to take off those rose-colored glasses.  So that's the deal with Pluto.

Uranus is all about disruptions, upsets, disturbances, rebellion, breakthroughs, innovation, technology, uniqueness and anything unconventional.  He's in Aries, an action-oriented sign that tends to be in the "shoot, ready, aim" camp.  Needless to say he's going to stir things up.  He rules explosions, too, by the way.  Fellow Fire Sign, Aries, is your 9th house of beliefs, expectations, higher learning, other cultures, politics, religion, philosophy of life, legal matters, long-distance travel and relocation.  One obvious effect of this square could be a sudden move for work or going back to school to train for a different job.  Increased travel is possible and of course legal issues and entanglement, all of which are likely to come up suddenly and cause a disruption.  Your expectations regarding your job could be erratic and frustrated more than usual or you may be drawn into political battles.  You get the idea, I'm sure.  So that's the deal with the square.  Keep an eye on that one November 1 and see if anything interesting happens. 

So this infamous T-square, which is gratefully separating but in effect for this lunation, also involved Jupiter in Cancer, sign of his exaltation and your 12th house of enlightenment, spirituality, inspiration, your subconscious, the collective consciousness, visions, dreams, confinement, seclusion, institutions, hidden enemies and self-undoing or what I call the "angels and demons" house.  Jupiter relates to expansion, exaggeration, confidence and often good luck and is generally recognized as a benefic planet.  However, when he's associated with malefics he can also expand their influence.  I've noticed this particularly in extreme weather events which he often is involved when in hard aspect with Mars and/or Pluto.  So with him squaring Uranus and opposing Pluto I'm not sure I trust him to behave, especially in Cancer where he can expand to his heart's content and be totally unrestrained or inhibited.  There are a few houses that have bad reputations and the 12th is one of them.  Even though such things as meditation and inspiration reside there when he's in cahoots with those other two caution is advised. 

The worst over all effect could play out something like delusions of grandeur, over-confidence and taking control of everything within reach at work.  With Mars driving you forward from your 1st house and the lunation relating to income, a major drive forward is possible that would be perceived by other like a Sherman tank on the horizon.  Even if this is executed in a politically correct manner, driving forward too fast and furiously usually results in burn-out.  Fortunately Jupiter is on the way out so the inflation portion should fade away relatively soon. 

Now, all that said, the New Moon is aspecting those three planets in a fairly friendly way.  It is forming a Triangle of Potential with the Pluto - Jupiter opposition and quincunx to Uranus so let's see what those effects may be.  The trine to Pluto from the house of income suggests taking control of your budget and finances as well as taking appropriate control of your responsibilities (helped along by Saturn) so as to favorably impress your superiors and perhaps earn a promotion or raise.  The sextile from the lunation to Jupiter can help build your confidence in a favorable way, inspire you with new ways of performing your duties and also helping you visualize what you want to achieve, key to attaining any significant goal.  The quincunx to Uranus suggests a change of course or adjustment regarding your beliefs and expectations, a unique approach and innovative attitude.  So if that tank analogy sounds familiar then this lunation may help tone it down a bit into more acceptable range so as not to leave a trail of destruction in your wake.

One more aspect worth noting in this lunation involves Saturn, Neptune and Mars.  Mars, as previously noted, is in your 1st house which is great for getting you fired up with energy and drive.  He is on your natal Sun if your birthday is right around July 28, giving him stronger effect.  He's squaring Saturn in your 4th house of home environment, cultural roots, memories, endings and new beginnings which suggests some delays, obstacles or perhaps resistance from someone at home regarding your ambitions.  This could also manifest as a power struggle or perhaps numerous responsibilities to family that are getting in the way of what you want to do.  The trine from Saturn to Neptune in Pisces, your 8th house of transformations, sex, death and rebirth, things you suppress, debt, shared resources and intense experiences, implies you can find peace and inspiration by putting things in their proper perspective.  Ponder the past and how you dealt with similar challenges previously.  Neptune's quincunx to Mars can tone down all that energy and make your approach more philosophical.  Thus, regardless of the challenges out there, this lunation offers some help in dealing with it and if properly applied preclude self-defeating behavior or actions.

The Full Moon on September 19 is in Pisces, adding a nice burst of energy to your 8th house and perhaps culminating those inspirational effects.  Saturn and Mars are still square off and tied in with Uranus, which once again encourages an innovative and original approach to work around those challenges.  Saturn, Venus and the North Node are all in your 4th house which points toward a new beginning or change of responsibility that may relate to your home environment directly or perhaps simply denote a new beginning.  Mercury is in Libra, your 3rd house of thoughts, ideas, siblings, neighbors and local travel but opposing Uranus which suggests that your thoughts are not properly balanced with your beliefs and expectations.  The good news is that Mars is providing plenty of energy and motivation to work these through, personalize them with your unique perspective and put them to work.  Mercury is squaring Jupiter, indicating that there could be some subconscious issues involved with those thoughts.  Siblings or neighbors may be involved or perhaps running lots of errands which may run into unexpected disturbances, disruptions or upsets.  Nonetheless, Mars will give you the energy to work through them.

On September 22 the Sun goes into Libra, an astrological event known as the Libra Ingress.  Whenever the Sun goes into a Cardinal Sign it marks the change of seasons with this one the autumnal equinox in the Northern Hemisphere and vernal equinox in the Southern.  The astrological chart for this event sets the tone for the coming season and is used primarily in astrometeorology (astrological weather prediction such as that found in the Old Farmer's Almanac) as well as mundane and geopolitical astrology.  I haven't studied them to see if they relate to individuals but am curious about it.  Thus, I'm going to throw a few things out there and encourage you to let me know if any of it plays out or if I was blowing cosmic smoke.

This chart has a T-square that comprises the Moon, Mars, Venus and Saturn with the latter two in conjunction.  Involvement of the Moon suggests tension of an emotional nature that relates to your career, status, reputation or public image versus home responsibilities, memories or struggles related to a new start.  Venus is usually favorable except she's in the sign of her debility where she can be overly possessive or passionate.  Mars is still in your 1st house and on your natal Sun if your birthday is right around August 9th, making it more intense for you.  Again it looks like something thwarting your personal ambitions.  Your beliefs and expectations are involved again and appear to be pushing for a change of direction or adjustment though it's likely that they need to be tweaked as well.  Jupiter is trining Venus, a harmonious aspect between two benefic planets, which can bring inspiration as well as insights from your subconscious to your current home situation, help resolve old issues that could go back as far as your childhood and generally help with a sense of well-being, even though what's going on in your head may be contrary to these impressions, perhaps due to arguments with a sibling or neighbor or perhaps simply negative thoughts.  Pluto is in a position to help with the career/home conflict through transformation or perhaps taking control of your work or projects.  Perhaps some of it needs to be eliminated.  Over all it looks as if this will be a period of assessing key areas of your life, trying to achieve balance between them and getting comfortable with what may be a new situation.
