If there's one area where astrology is worth its weight in gold, it's in timing events. Some will come our way, regardless, as the cosmos conducts the symphony of our lives, so if you're trying to accomplish something it always helps if you're in synch with the Universe. A very simple way to plan certain activities is to schedule them for when a New Moon occurs in the relevant House; for more detailed information on which areas of life fall under what astrological house, go to our House page. Of course other factors come into play, but this is one way to focus on an area that will enjoy a little extra zodiacal help. On the other hand, if you have something in-work and wonder when it's going to come to fruition, there's a good chance that will correlate with a Full Moon in the relevant House. For example, when my daughter was selling her house, she wondered when this would occur. I looked at her chart to see when she'd have a lunation in either her 4th (home environment) or 9th (legal contracts) House. She didn't like the answer, as it was several months hence, but that was exactly what it turned out to be. Thus, if you're planning something, this will give you some idea when it might be the best time to start. Remember, also, that when Mercury is retrograde (always shown on your individual Horoscope page) that it's best to wait until it's over before you start something new. During those times reworking old issues, making repairs, editing or revising are favored but moving forward isn't likely to occur. Other planets in retrograde have a similar effect; check the Retrograde Planets page for details. The table below gives you a rough idea, based on the natural house structure that uses your Sun Sign as your 1st House. If you know your Ascendant, then use that Sign as well, as either could provide the answer, but it's bound to be one or the other. It's simple. Just find your Sign and/or Ascendant sign on the left, then move across the columns until you get to the House that comprises the area of your life in question. When there's a New Moon in the designated Sign, it's a good time to start; when there's a Full Moon in the designated Sign, it's likely to culminate, meaning it will either be complete or move into a new phase. Note that there are two tables! The first one covers Houses 1 - 6 and the one below covers Houses 7 - 12. Of course that doesn't necessarily give you an actual date. That's where things get a little more complicated. In order to follow the tables below you need to understand a few astronomical basics. First of all, the New Moon will always occur in the same sign as where the Sun is. Thus, to know when a New Moon will occur, all you need to know is when the Sun will be in that sign, which is shown in the left column. For example, if it tells you to start that home improvement project when the New Moon is in Aries, you know that will be sometime between March 21 - April 20. In other words, the New Moon will fall within the date parameters shown for each sign; the exact dates are included in the "Key Events" header to your monthly horoscope or, if you want to know farther in advance, consult an ephemeris, calendar, or other source. The Full Moon in a given sign, however, will occur when the Sun is in the opposite sign. For example, the Full Moon will be in Sagittarius when the Sun is in Gemini, so it will occur somewhere in the May/June timeframe. If you want the ballpark dates, you go down the left column to Gemini where it tells you the Sun will be there between May 22 - June 21. Thus, your Full Moon in Sagittarius will occur somewhere within that timeframe. Again, to find the exact date, consult the same sources noted for a New Moon. To make it a little easier, each house block notes which sign the Sun will be in for that particular Full Moon. A New Moon in a given sign and the Full Moon in that same sign will be separated by roughly six months. Bear in mind, however, if you start something with a New Moon, it could be completed by the time the next New Moon comes along, i.e. the following month, depending on how big of deal it is. Some things last for years, so they're not necessarily a matched set with the start and finish six months apart. Something in that house will be affected with each lunation, but they don't come and go in perfect order where one issue is completed before another one starts. I'm sure you've seen enough of life at this point to know that's not the case, even though it would be nice in some cases if it were. [NOTE:--If the New or Full Moon happens to be an eclipse, it has even more punch, and these generally do last until the next eclipse closes it out, about six months later.] To illustrate, if you're wondering about a relationship, a Full Moon in the 7th House doesn't necessarily mean it will end, but it is likely to enter a new level. A New Moon in your 7th House usually heralds someone new coming into your life. Just remember that "relationships" in this context includes all one-on-one interactions whether it's your significant other, close friend or relative, or business associate. If you're in business for yourself, it could mean you'll be getting a new customer or client. As another example, if your Sign is Leo and you want to know when it's a good time to go to Las Vegas to do some gambling, you'd look under "Leo" and your 5th House of speculation, which would be Sagittarius. The New Moon will be in Sagittarius, meaning it would occur some time between November 23 - December 21. As always, if you're confused or have any questions, feel free to contact me.
