Little Virgos can be finicky, impatient, critical and ornery like a miniature adult.  They don't even know what will make them happy because what they're looking for is perfection.  They have their own view of how things should be and if they're not, it's wrong.

They may go their entire life seeking perfection, which of course they'll never find and only frustrate themselves and everyone around them trying.  Thus, it behooves you as the parent of a little Virgo to help them understand that there is something called "Good Enough."  Ordinarily, this would NOT be something you'd want to teach your child for fear of making them satisfied with mediocrity.  This is not something you need to worry about with a Virgo because they will always strive for perfection.  However, in spite of how they see things, they need to realize that being a perfectionist is NOT a virtue.

On the positive side, they have a natural sense of order.  Their Sign Ruler is Mercury, which gives them excellent eye-hand coordination, spatial recognition, the ability to learn quickly, and understand how things work.  As soon as they're old enough they'll do well with such things as Legos, puzzles, and models.  They're interested in how things work, so focus on games and activities that demonstrate a flow of events or actions to a logical conclusion.  If it's not logical, they'll get frustrated and think it's stupid.

Little Virgos like to be clean.  They may think a bath is a nuisance or an inconvenience, but they will like the result.  This is a good analogy to use when trying to reason with them to do something they don't like, that the result will be something good.  As an Earth Sign they are logical and have a hard time grasping abstract concepts.  Since they usually have excellent eye-hand coordination, activities such as coloring are good for them, though they'll probably fuss or criticize themselves if they go outside the lines.  Encourage creativity, but don't force the issue if they get frustrated.  It will make them think that they're stupid anytime they can't do something exactly right the first time.  For example, if they decide they want to learn to play a musical instrument, they may expect to be able to sit down and play symphony-grade numbers within a week, maybe two.  Teach them the principle of natural progression and learning line by line, precept by precept, and striving for a goal.  Let them know it is okay not to be perfect.  Mistakes will happen, but we learn from them.  Emphasize to them that then they're smarter, which should help them accept them more readily.  Virgo is a Mutable Sign, meaning they can change more easily than others.

Their attitude toward school can be less than positive.  They learn quickly, but in their impatience and tendency to rush through things, thanks to Mercury, they tend to make mistakes.  This, of course, results in a less than perfect result, in this case a grade, so they'll be frustrated and disappointed.  Teach them to slow down and check their work.  If they don't get all A's let them know this is okay.  Again, point out the principle of progression, e.g., they're smarter now than they were a year ago, or when they had their first lesson, or played their first game, or before they tried at all.

Virgo rules the Zodiacal 6th House which comprises work, health and pets.  It's usually not too hard to teach a little Virgo to work, even though as a child this will be largely through their play.  As noted earlier, putting things together is a great activity for them and they can enjoy a sense of accomplishment when they're finished.  Health and its companion, fitness, are also important to Virgos.  Encourage them to participate in sports, even though they're not usually naturally competitive.  If necessary, emphasize the fitness side of things, which they can appreciate.  Teach them to eat right and they probably will for the rest of their life.  Cleanliness fits in with both work and health.  Let them help with chores around the house and teach them how to keep their things in order, which they'll like.  In most cases, Virgos will keep their room reasonably neat without being nagged.  As far as pets are concerned, most Virgos like animals better than people, so bear that in mind as well.

Virgos are witty, have a wry sense of humor, and generally get along with others.  Since they're perfectionists, they tend to behave fairly well, at least for others; they don't put on façades for family though there will be times when you wish they would.  Nonetheless, they have a lot of charm and their honesty can be quite refreshing.  They call 'em like they see 'em, which isn't always pretty, but they can be trusted.  What you need to do as a parent is make sure that the positive side of that perfectionistic nature is preserved while teaching them to deal with the self-defeating parts.  They have a tremendous amount of potential and usually grow up to be responsible, productive adults.  You know, the kind that support themselves and move out before they're thirty.
