Lunations and Long-term Aspects

This month is exceptionally active in an astrological sense yet has a few things going on that may make it appear that things have come to a screeching halt as the planets that rule your drive and ambition station retrograde.  Furthermore, another planet stations direct, there's the Aries ingress and three lunations, many of which tie together thematically or in some cases occur on the same day.  So let's get started with the New Moon on March 1 which is in your sign.  If this is your birthday bear in mind that these effects will be part of your solar return and thus last the entire year.  Try to tone down your enthusiasm a little at that prospect so you can save your energy for when you need it later.

The New Moon is conjunct Neptune which gives it even more punch.  As a Pisces you are likely to bask in this energy as if you've finally found your true place in the Universe but don't be surprised if those around you see you as even weirder than usual as a result.  This is not necessarily a bad thing, to be sure, unless your livelihood or relationships are overly based on logic in which case you're already in trouble.  Adding some additional energy to this trio is Pisces' traditional ruler, Jupiter, who is trining them from fellow Water Sign, Cancer.  At this point he's still retrograde, internalizing his ruminations toward ethics and philosophical musings, but that is going to change on March 6th when he stations direct.  More on that later.  Pluto is sextile the lunation from your 11th house of friends, groups, organizations, goals, hopes and wishes hinting at an opportunity from that part of your life.  Remember that Pluto relates to power and control as well as exposing and eliminating corruption.  In this last respect he also relates to healing such as when you lance a boil or surgically remove an infected organ or tumor.  This is all the good news.

Before moving on to the Mars RX station which occurs about 8 hours after the New Moon I want to remind you of that Cardinal T-square out there which will be around for a while and may from time to time provide rather dissonant background noise for everything else going on.  It involves Pluto, Uranus and Jupiter.  While the New Moon's favorable aspects to the first two may mitigate some of it, especially for Pisceans, it's still a T-square that you'll see manifest around you if not directly in your own life.  All you have to do is open a newspaper or listen to the news to see Pluto's work while he resides in Capricorn, ruler of government and corporations.  As noted above, this is your 11th house of friends and goals so a transformation in that part of your life is underway even if it's almost too subtle to detect.  Uranus in Aries is all about surprises, some of which are rather volatile and violent.  This is your 2nd house of income, possessions, finances, needs, comforts, pleasures and what you value which may have been upended numerous times in the last year or so.  This is also the house that includes your physical body as your most fundamental possession.  The square with Pluto can bring challenges achieving your goals or maintaining friendships due to either physical or financial challenges.  Jupiter is in Cancer, your 5th house of ego development, creative expression, children, romance, entertainment and speculation.  While he's been retrograde this has probably been a time where you have been taking a closer look at who and what you are as well as what you believe.  This energy will be changing and covered in more detail later.  The main thing to remember is that this is out there, has been and will be for sometime to come.

The Mars RX station sets that New Moon in place for the duration of the RX period, at least with respect to the retrograde's message.  Mars is in Libra, your 8th house of transformations, sex, death and rebirth, intense experiences, things you suppress, debt and shared resources.  This placement throws a rather large caution flag since it can predispose you to accidents and such.  Since he's in the sign of his debility this is mitigated slightly since his predisposition toward unilateral action is slightly subdued.  Now that he's going RX this energy will be internalized in a way that is best explained in my article on Mars retrograde which you can find here.  I strongly suggest you take the time to read it and note those dates on your calendar for future reference.  Remember that if you don't use the astrological energy it will use you and knowing what is going on helps you leverage the transits and transcend them as far as possible as you consciously direct them toward what you want.  The Sun - Mars trine referred to in that article occurred on February 14, i.e. Valentine's Day, which may help you remember the event referred to that brought you a huge dose of enthusiasm.  As Mars stations this is likely to fall flat as Mars stations RX but this is not necessarily a bad thing since you may have been on the wrong track.

Venus is squaring Mars from Capricorn, your 11th house of friends and goals as defined earlier.  Venus rules your 3rd house of thoughts, ideas, siblings, neighbors and local travel as well as your 8th where Mars is placed.  This suggests some conflict between any current ideas, particularly as they relate to goals, and Mars' intentions.  You need to get a strong grip on the concept that whatever your current thoughts and ambitions are they will probably undergo significant change in the coming months.  Fortunately as a Mutable sign this is easier for you than Fixed or Cardinal signs.

Moving right along to Saturn who stations RX the following day on March 2, bear in mind that Saturn's RX mission involves stirring something up at the subconscious level that needs to be restructured and will surface when he stations direct (July 21) and typically be accomplished by the time he exits his shadow (October 27).  Saturn is in fellow Water Sign, Scorpio, your 9th house of beliefs, expectations, higher learning, legal matters, politics, religion, other cultures, long-distance travel and relocation.  Thus, something in this part of your life needs to be restructured.  Mercury is squaring Saturn from Aquarius, your 12th house which includes your subconscious. Mercury rules your 4th of home environment and new beginnings as well as your 7th of close relationships.  This implies some conflict regarding your beliefs in these areas which needs to be revised.

Jupiter stations direct on March 6 which will shift his energy from being philosophical to his more usual expansive and inflationary influence.  This is interesting to ponder since he's parked in your 5th house which includes your ego.  This does not sound particularly compatible with changing your beliefs unless you can truly see that as an evolutionary process leading to improvement.  Also note that this energy shift will influence that T-square generally.  Jupiter is often viewed as a benefic planet but in reality he's more neutral.  He expands anything he touches for good or ill.  One area to keep a close eye on is your financial goals.  With Uranus in your house of money and Pluto in your house of goals an inflated ego is probably not a good thing for making decisions that relate to this area.  Just sayin'.

The Full Moon on March 16 is in your polar sign, Virgo, and 7th house of close relationships including your significant other, business partners and professionals, close friends and relatives, competitors and open enemies.  If your birthday is right around March 17 this will have more influence.  A Full Moon typically brings an ending, culmination or shift to a new phase.  This lunation has three quincunxes a.k.a. inconjuncts which typically indicate the need to change course, justify your position or sometimes a Catch-22 situation.  At the least some sort of adjustment is required which is often not obvious and often surprising.  These needed shifts are going to tie into the messages of the RX planets and nudge you in the direction they have in mind.  With the lunation in your 7th house perhaps it will be someone close to you who provides the insights you need.

The Sun enters Aries on March 20, bringing another energy shift as he leaves your sign.  At this time Mercury is conjunct Neptune which can provide a lot of inspired ideas which you should take note of for future reference.  Mercury is in debility and fall in your sign because he typically promotes logical and rational thought.  This does not mean he is always correct.  However, clarity of thought may be hard to come by at this time, even though you may be somewhat used to that.  Daydreaming and fantasizing is favored which is great if you're a writer or composer.  Insights and inspiration are definitely favored so this is a great time to do some meditation on what is going on and what direction you should head toward.

The New Moon on March 30 is in Aries, your 2nd house of money, possessions, needs and so forth.  While Venus was RX in the latter part of December and through January her message was to identify what you value and give you the impetus you need to fight for it.  This lunation may help you further identify whatever that is, even though Mars and Saturn RX are not encouraging forward motion at this time.  The implications all around is that this is deep, serious business that deserves your full attention and consideration.  This lunation is conjunct Uranus and thus also sets off that T-square.  This is a time when you definitely need to hang onto your wallet but your instincts may serve you well regarding how to deal with it.  Saturn and Mars are in the same degree which may have some interesting effects as well.  Mercury and Neptune are still in Pisces with their midpoint in trine with Jupiter so inspiration is possible.  This would be a favorable time for some meditation regarding what the retrograde planets have in mind for you and give you an edge in moving toward it.  Their message may not be profound or life-changing in a dramatic way but it will contribute in some meaningful way to your mission in life.

Do you ever wonder...

Why you act or feel a certain way?
Where a certain talent came from?
Why you feel driven to pursue something?

For me, I always wondered why I was so driven to write.  From the time I was barely old enough to hold a pencil I wanted to write stories.  My natal chart gave a few hints but they weren't really that clear.  However, years later, even after I'd been into astrology for quite a long time, I discovered the answer:

Kalliope, muse of writing, was sitting on my Ascendant with a huge grin on her face.

Kalliope is an asteroid and a fairly obscure one at that, yet she solved a mystery about myself I'd wondered about for years.  As an astrologer I'd learned early on that asteroids fine-tune your personality and reveal details the usual natal reading of the planets and luminaries miss.  While you may have something in common with those who share you Sun Sign you know that everyone is a distinct individual.  The Moon and planets help define you but still leave a lot to be discovered.

Asteroids get personal.  There are thousands of them, making that possible.

What will the asteroids reveal about YOU?
