Lunations and Long-term Aspects

This is a month that's loaded with cosmic activity and much of it is going to last for a while.  We're into what you might consider a Cosmic Relay Race as one planet after another has gone into that state since late December with Venus which lasted through January, then Mercury in February and this month Mars and Saturn.  Retrograde planets internalize their energy and while their effects are often annoying as some items don't function properly or progress grinds to a screeching halt, the Universe, in its infinite wisdom, knows that it does us good from time to time to look at things more carefully and therefore forces the issue.  In case you haven't already noticed, arguing with the planets usually doesn't end in your favor. 

To recap to what we have so far, Venus should have brought your attention to something you value, perhaps rearranging your priorities accordingly.  When she's retrograde she becomes the Warrior Goddess as opposed to the Goddess of Love and therefore further impels you to fight for what you want rather than waiting for it to come to you.  The shadow of her last RX gig lasts until March 5 so it overlaps with upcoming stations of Mars and Saturn.  In February Mercury was retrograde, a time when computers as well as numerous electronic devices tend to misbehave as well as mechanical items with your thought processes often disrupted as well which is not only noticeable mentally but often brings a sense of clumsiness or incoordination physically as well.  His shadow lasts until March 21.

Another thing to keep in mind is that persistent Cardinal T-Square involving Jupiter RX, Pluto and Uranus. It has been there quite a while and will be for several months to come.  It's rather unfriendly and can explain a lot of what you see going on around you.  The good news for Leo is that Uranus is in fellow Fire Sign, Aries, so this trines your sign and softens the effect, shifting it in such a way that the changes are likely to be positive in the long haul.  Aries is your 9th house of beliefs, expectations, higher learning, legal matters, other cultures, long-distance travel and relocation which may show the effects of this placement which can include sudden events, surprises, disturbances, breaking free and innovation. 

Pluto, harbinger of transformational change, is in Capricorn, your 6th house of work, service, health and pets which implies major changes to this part of your life.  Be particularly mindful of your health just to be on the safe side.  If you have any hidden health problems this is likely to bring them to your attention.  Pluto is also about power and control as well as eliminating corruption.  You may want to assume total control of this part of your life or be exposed to people who want to.  Note that Pluto's work is being exchanged with Jupiter over there in your subconscious.  Jupiter is currently RX which internalizes his energy such that it usually addresses ethical and philosophical views.  He goes direct on March 6 so I'll go into that more later.  The main thing I want you to file away in the back of your head is that this long-term aspect is working on these areas and it will show up from time to time if it hasn't already.  My point is that it's not going away anytime soon.

On March 1 the New Moon occurs approximately 8 hours before Mars stations RX which will blend their effects.  A New Moon often brings something new into your life while Mars RX will tend to slow things down.  Furthermore, the chart for the station will be in effect until 20 May while a New Moon usually lasts until the next one, though some astrologers believe that it lasts until a Full Moon occurs in the same sign 6 months later.  I have not paid enough attention to things to have an opinion but thought I'd throw it out nonetheless.  At any rate, the New Moon is in Pisces, your 8th house of transformations, sex, death and rebirth, intense experiences, things you suppress, debt and shared resources.  Clearly this is one of those heavy-duty houses but not all that occurs there is negative, either.  The lunation is conjunct Neptune, ruler of Pisces, which give it additional other-worldly energy.  If your birthday is right around August 3 you are likely to notice this more than others with the effect of nudging you in a slightly different direction than you may currently be heading. 

This lunation makes favorable aspects with Jupiter and Pluto which will bring additional influence.  Note that they're both party to that T-square mentioned above.  Jupiter is in Cancer, your 12th house of dreams, visions, enlightenment, inspiration, seclusion, confinement, institutions, hidden enemies and self-undoing.  Jupiter rules your 5th house of ego definition, creativity and children as well as entertainment and speculation which could draw them in as well.  He is also the traditional ruler of Pisces.  He is retrograde and will station direct a few days after the New Moon which will be covered later.  His function at this point will be to further enhance the transformational energy at the subconscious level which can bring significant revelations and insights that can take you to somewhere you haven't been before.  Pluto, planet that rules transformations, is in Capricorn, your 6th house of work, service, health and pets, as noted earlier.  If your birthday is around August 4 - 5 your natal Sun forms a yod with Pluto and the New Moon which increases its influence considerably.  This may be a time when you're considering a major change in your life such as with your career.

About 8 hours after the New Moon Mars stations RX.  He's in Libra, sign of his debility, where his typical unilateral action is somewhat inhibited by the need to confer with others.  This is your 3rd house of thoughts, ideas, siblings, neighbors and local travel. At this point you should go here and read more about the Mars retrograde cycle if you want a better understanding of what's going on.  I suggest that you note the dates mentioned in the table on your calendar and see what happens on those days.  Better yet, use them to advantage because if you don't use this astrological energy it will use you.  The trine from the Sun to Mars that occurred before the RX station occurred on February 14, i.e. Valentine's Day, which may help you remember what may have occurred at that time that gave you a tremendous dose of enthusiasm.  Note that the station may deflate that somewhat.  Looking at the Mars RX chart for additional clues, the first thing that pops out is the square from Venus to Mars.  She's in Capricorn where she was retrograde in the December - January timeframe as previously noted where she was tutoring you on what you value most about your work then gave you a boost toward fighting for what you want.  If you decided to go for it at this point you may find yourself rethinking that a bit, partly due to Mercury's RX in February and now Mars will do a number on it as well.  The good news is that this station in Libra is sextile Leo which implies an opportunity and a much more positive outcome.  If your birthday is right around August 21 this is a direct hit on your Sun and will increase the influence.

On March 2 Saturn stations RX in fellow Fixed Sign, Scorpio, your 4th house of home environment, memories, cultural roots, endings and new beginnings.  If your birthday is right around August 17 this one will square you Sun and have a less favorable effect.  The general pattern Saturn RX tends to display is during his RX period he stirs up your subconscious with regard to something that needs to be restructured.  When he stations direct (July 21) you see what that is and by the time he exits his shadow period toward the end of October you should have everything in order.  Saturn RX tends to present various obstacles and delays which can be quite frustrating.  This could exacerbate Mars RX which also tends to slow things down so if you're trying to get started in a new endeavor be prepared to not progress as quickly as you'd like.  Mercury, still a disoriented since his RX gig in February, is squaring Saturn from Aquarius, your polar sign and 7th house of close relationships.  This implies that you may not be getting all the support you'd like from your significant other, business partner, close friends or whoever happen to live in this astrological house.  On the positive side, at least hopefully, is the fact that for this chart, even though it's very similar to the New Moon and Mars RX station, the Moon has moved into Aries which can give you the emotional energy to go forward.  It could also stir up your temper and increase your frustration in which case you need to recognize where this energy is coming from so you can deal with it more easily.

Jupiter stations direct on March 6.  Remember that he is part of that T-square described earlier but now his energy will be released from the bondage of being retrograde which tended it toward being philosophical.  Now his influence toward expansion will manifest which may or may not be a good thing.  While Jupiter is usually considered a benefic planet in reality he only inflates what he touches, for good or ill.  Thus, in cahoots with Uranus and Pluto, there's no telling what might occur.  With Jupiter in your 12th house of subconscious this could bring a blast of inspiration or enlightenment that has a strong influence on your beliefs and helps you discover exactly what it is about your job that you don't like, which could be very useful for avoiding it in the future.  On the other hand this clarity could also increase your frustration if things are moving at a snail's pace in the direction you want to go.  Patience usually isn't one of Leo's strong points so perhaps this is one of the lessons you'll obtain from this time.

The Full Moon on March 16 is in your other nextdoor neighboring sign, Virgo, your 2nd house of income, finances, possessions, needs, comforts, pleasures and what you value.  As you recall, Venus was helping define what you value a while back.  A Full Moon usually brings an ending, culmination or shift to a new phase so this could be when you start reorganizing your priorities.  This chart has 3 quincunxes, an aspect that denotes the need for a change of direction, defending your position or recognizing a Catch-22 situation.  It is typically a bit uncomfortable, unpredictable and demands a shift or change of some description.  These are all likely to relate to the retrograde planets' message and help you make the needed tweaks accordingly.

The Sun enters Aries on March 20 which will bring what may be a noticeable energy shift due to the significant difference between this sign and Pisces.  You may find it brings a change in your thinking through an unexpected revelation that may come through someone you know well.  If the Full Moon didn't get you moving in a slightly different direction already this may help clarify things.

The New Moon on March 30 is in Aries, your 9th house of beliefs and so forth.  If your birthday is right around August 2 this will be more pronounced.  There could be a fair amount of conflict since the lunation is conjunct Uranus and therefore connected with that volatile T-square but you are somewhat shielded from it.  If it does stir things up as far as your expectations are concerned look for some inspiration to help you see what's going on and how you should respond, if at all.

As you can certainly see if you've made it this far this is a very busy month with a lot going on astrologically.  If things are hectic and frustrating for you at this time you can see some of the cosmic roots behind it and thus deal with it more effectively.  It is not a particularly good time for moving forward and even if you do you may find out later that you were headed in the wrong direction anyway.  This is a time for careful planning, observation and listening to your intuition.  Leo is in a better position than some of the signs so this may not be as hard on you as others but you are likely to see it going on all around you.  Tune into the Fixed nature of your sign for stability and maintain your usual can-do attitude as you take it one day at a time and see where you wind up.
