The New Year begins with some cosmic fireworks with a New Moon on January 1 that features a Cardinal Grand Square, an aspect pattern that typically contains a considerable amount of tension.  However, for Earth signs such as Taurus and Virgo, the effects are mitigated quite a bit since the Capricorn lunation trines your sign and if your birthday is right around May 1 it trines your natal Sun, implying you will notice it more than others.  More energy is contributed by Pluto and Mercury, both conjunct the New Moon, as well as your sign ruler, Venus, who's retrograde in Capricorn as well.  This comprises your 9th house of beliefs, expectations, philosophy of life, higher learning, religion, politics, other cultures, long-distance travel and relocation so examine this part of your life for something new.  However, shades of the past may appear as well, perhaps information that has been previously hidden, which will give it a slightly different flavor. 

With that lunation quartet tied in with Uranus in Aries, Jupiter in Cancer and Mars in Libra, there are various other forces involved as well.  Uranus is in your 12th house of inspiration, enlightenment, subconscious mind, institutions, confinement, seclusion, hidden enemies and self-undoing or what I often call the "angels and demons" house.  Since Uranus is the planet of surprises, freedom, breakthroughs, innovation and rebellion there is no telling what this combination could bring whether it's sudden revelations or an unexpected trip to the emergency room.  With Uranus in square aspect with the Sun, Moon, Mercury and Pluto in your house of beliefs, it's likely that you will encounter some sort of insight or discovery that has an effect on your belief system.  Mars in Libra, your 6th house of work, health and pets, suggests a lot of action in this part of your life, whether it involves your job or health.  With Mars and Uranus in opposition, the link between your subconscious mind and your health are linked more strongly than usual.  Thus, if there is something bothering you at the subconscious level it could manifest in your health.  On the other hand, if this is about your work, then there may be something trying to break through to your conscious mind relative to it, especially if you're not happy in your existing employment situation.

Mars is also in a square with the lunation quartet which suggests whatever is cooking in your house of beliefs relates to your work or health as well.  The final planet involved, albeit not quite as closely as the others, is Jupiter who's retrograde in Cancer, sign of his exaltation.  Jupiter retrograde often relates to ethics in some way or some other form of philosophical ponderings.  He's the ruler of your 8th house of transformations and currently residing in your 3rd house of thoughts, ideas, siblings, neighbors and local travel.  The implications here are that you may have outgrown something in this part of your life and a change is in order.  Your thoughts ultimately become part of your beliefs so it's possible that your are obtaining new information or thoughts that will ultimately congeal enough to influence your belief system.  As a Fixed sign it's not usually easy for a Taurus to change his or her mind, or at least to admit it, but events or situations may transpire that get your attention in such a way that it's hard to avoid.  Jupiter is trining Saturn in Scorpio, your 7th house of close relationships which includes your significant other, close friends and relatives, business partners and business professionals with whom you interact on a one on one basis.  Saturn is the natural ruler of authority figures and also signifies discipline, responsibility and organization.  If your birthday is right around May 11 he's opposing your Sun which could bring some issues in this area and possibly be an important influence in whatever is evolving at this time.

The Full Moon on January 15 is in Cancer, your 3rd house of thoughts and such as noted earlier.  A Full Moon usually brings an ending, culmination or shift to a new phase which coincides with what the New Moon kicked off two weeks before.  With the Sun in your 9th house of beliefs, those are being highlighted in some way.  Also note that your sign ruler, Venus, is retrograde in your 9th house of beliefs which tends to call attention to what you value.  Of course if your behavior and priorities are not in synch with what's most important in your life then some changes are called for.  These will take time with compromise the key to transitioning to a lifestyle that supports your strongest beliefs more fully.  News or information that comes your way of a public nature may serve as the final catalyst to recognize what is going on.  Saturn is forming an aspect pattern known as a Triangle of Potential with the lunation which suggests that a professional or authority figure will assist with working things out.  Your Sign ruler, Venus, is still retrograde and squaring Mars which could indicate that activities at work are also a factor in this process.  Again, if you're unhappy with your current job or career path, it looks as if the Universe is trying to help you sort things out.

This month has two New Moons, the second one occurring on January 30 in fellow Fixed sign, Aquarius, your 10th house of career, reputation, public image and status.  This implies something new in this area with the quincunx with Jupiter indicating an adjustment or change of course is part of what needs to be addressed.  Pay attention to your intuition as well as any irritations or annoyances that may arise which may also point you in the right direction.  The beginning of a new year is always a good time to assess what was accomplished the year before and map out what your aspirations are for the next twelve months.  If nothing else, spend some time doing that, which may yield more information that you might expect.
