Lunations and Long-term Aspects The New Year starts out with a New Moon which could manifest as a cosmic hangover considering that Cardinal Grand Square blaring from the chart. It occurs in Capricorn on New Year's Day and if your birthday is right around April 1st you're most likely to notice its effects which will most likely be related to your career, reputation, public image or status. Not only are the Sun and Moon in that sign and house but they are accompanied by Pluto and Mercury which are both conjunct the lunation plus Venus retrograde who is in Capricorn as well but slightly upstream. Mercury, ruler of communications, information, thoughts and motion and Pluto, ruler of power, control, eliminating corruption and anything you've swept under the proverbial rug, will thus lend these energies as well. For example, information relative to something in your past could deliver some sort of challenge regarding your current career or status. This lunation quartet is squaring Uranus in your sign and on your natal Sun if your birthday is right around March 29. If that's you, your life is probably quite hectic, unpredictable and full of changes. You may also feel your sense of independence very strongly and want to rebel against anyone or anything that crosses you, even more than the usual Aries energy provides. Thus, whatever arises you are likely to have a strong reaction to. Other planets involved in this Grand Square include your sign ruler, Mars, who's in Libra squaring the lunation quartet, opposing Uranus and also squaring Jupiter in Cancer. Mars in Libra is likely to relate to your relationships in some way. One way this could be operating due to that opposition with Uranus might be that you want to pursue a relationship yet don't want to give up your personal freedom, creating a dilemma. Oppositions are best handled by seeking balance between the two opposing choices, but this opposition is further complicated by being part of a Grand Square. In other words, Mars is not only opposing Uranus but also in a square with the Sun, Moon, Pluto and Mercury, indicating that whatever comes your way relative to your career or status will also present a challenge to your relationships, either existing or anything new that comes along. For example, perhaps you've received a job offer that requires that you relocate a considerable distance away and thus squash one or more relationships. This is particularly likely thanks to Jupiter, ruler of your 9th house of long-distance travel and relocation, which is in Cancer, your 4th house of home environment as well as new beginnings. Jupiter is retrograde in this house which sometimes brings out ethics issues or perhaps simply looking at your beliefs and expectations more closely. If you're not satisfied with your present career path this could also be a time when events transpire that make you realize that changes need to be made. However, in order to improve one part of your life you may have to make some sacrifices in another, making the decision difficult and full of challenges. The one favorable aspect in this lunation from the Ram's point of view is the trine between Jupiter and Saturn, ruler of your 10th house of career who is in Scorpio, your 8th house of transformations, sex, death and rebirth, shared resources, debt and intense experiences. Saturn is the natural ruler of discipline, organizations, responsibility, structure and building something in general. Thus, if Jupiter has been prompting you to make a few changes, his harmonious relationship with Saturn will help you find the way to do so. Neptune transiting your 12th house of inspiration, enlightenment, spirituality, subconscious and such can help you as well, particularly through a trine to the North Node, also in your 8th house of transformations which implies something new coming into your life. This suggests following your intuition and trusting that it will take you to the best possible solution. The Full Moon on January 15 is in Cancer, your 4th house of home environment, memories, cultural roots and endings/new beginnings. Since a Full Moon typically denotes an ending, culmination or shift to a new phase, this supports closing the door on something as you approach something new. A Full Moon is an opposition by definition with the Sun in your 10th house, throwing emphasis on your career or status, and Moon in your 4th suggesting an ending or new beginning. Saturn is in a position with respect to the lunation that indicates discipline and structure can mitigate and assist you with the course you need to take. Mercury has moved into Aquarius, your 11th house of friends, networking, organizations and goals, indicating information can come from this sector that can assist with the necessary changes. Inspiration toward something new is still in force and will be for a while since both Neptune and the lunar nodes move rather slowly. If your birthday is right around April 16 this lunation creates a T-square with your natal Sun, making it more likely that you will notice its effects. Venus retrograde is squaring your sign ruler, Mars, which has interesting implications as well. When Venus is retrograde she calls attention to what you value. She's in your house of career and status, bringing focus to that part of your life and what you need the most. Mars, as noted earlier, is in your 7th house of relationships so this square emphasizes the conflict between your wants and needs with regard to the people in your life. In other words, it looks as if the cosmos is telling you that you can't have your cake and eat it, too, without making some important decisions and following up with the necessary changes. This month has two New Moon, the second one on January 30. This one occurs in Aquarius, your 11th house of friends, networking and goals as noted earlier. Those born around March 30 are likely to notice this one the most since the lunation also connects with Uranus parked on your natal Sun. At least it's a sextile, an aspect that typically delivers an opportunity. The New Moon is quincunx Jupiter, which as previously noted has been prompting you to make some changes and rules your 9th house of beliefs and expectations as well as long distance travel and relocation. A quincunx is also called an inconjunct and is often rather uncomfortable because it indicates the need for a change of direction, adjustment, or justifying your current position. This, however, could be when you finally start to move toward the decisions made earlier in the month. Venus is still retrograde and conjunct Pluto, hinting at further ruminations relative to what you need to delete from your life to fulfill your needs and desires. This unlikely couple is opposing Jupiter, again pointing toward that need for balance as opposed to cutting off your nose to spite your face. There will be an opportunity to work this all out but it's going to take effort and probably be precipitated by some sort of nuisance or annoyance that tips the balance and pushes you in the direction you need to go. Clearly there's a lot going on in your life right now with lots of decisions looming before you that aren't easy or no-brainers. Nonetheless, you can work them out, even though it will not necessarily be easy or accomplished overnight. However, no sign likes a good challenge more than Aries and it's likely with Uranus transiting your sign that various changes are inevitable. Harnessing your warrior spirit and adopting a mantra similar to "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead" may be what you need during this phase. |
