Lunations and Long-term Aspects

This month there is only one lunation to report on since January had three and this is a short month.  As you probably know this is thanks to ancient emperors and the like who virtually "stole" days from poor February to add days to their namesake months, such as July (Julius Caesar) and August (Augustus Caesar).  Since the lunar cycle is approximately 28 days, it's not unusual for a month to have three but having one is only possible for February and doesn't happen very often.  Nonetheless, this Full Moon is somewhat special in that it occurs on Valentines Day in much of the world giving it interesting implications.  Besides that there's a lot going on astrologically so there is actually plenty to cover including Mercury, your sign ruler, who goes retrograde on February 6.

Mercury stations retrograde at 03:20 Pisces, your 10th house of career, reputation, public image and status with status covering a plethora of possibilities as diverse as what you may post on Facebook under that heading.  Mercury is in both debility and fall in that sign where his hardline logic can get lost in the intuitive, dreamy, imaginative world of Pisces with this further strengthened by a conjunction with Neptune.  On the positive side, this has potential to bring insights and inspiration but you need to bear in mind that this cosmic environment can also be an illusion or in some cases downright deceptive.  As some of you may already know Mercury retrograde can be a frustrating time so adding the possibility of delusions isn't exactly good news.  However, since Mercury retrograde is a time for reflection, rethinking, reconsidering, re-planning and so forth, perhaps that bit of inspiration could actually be handy.  If you find you've been misled, it can likewise be helpful to revisit what's going on.  If your birthday is right around May 25 this station squares your Natal Sun and is likely to have a stronger effect.

There are various other things implied by this retrograde chart as well.  (If you're an astrologer you can see the chart here.)  Venus just came out of retrograde the end of January.  Her message at that time is usually to take a close look at what you value the most and whether your priorities are properly set.  When she rises before the Sun, as is the case during and slightly after a retrograde period, she is the Warrior Goddess as opposed to the Goddess of Love.  This is when she puts on her armor and fights for what she wants or needs.  Capricorn is your 8th house of transformations, sex, death and regeneration, shared resources, things you suppress or hide, debt and intense experiences.  Ponder whether there's something in this part of your life that deserves attention.  Pluto is also in that same house where he is accidentally dignified as the ruler of the 8th zodiacal house.  He provides even more energy toward this part of your life and is conjunct Venus, providing additional punch.

This is where you would do well to follow your heart, making it a good thing that Mercury may be temporarily out of commission.  You may be more inclined to follow your head, which is not always the best course.  The Moon, seat of your emotions, is operating with Venus to draw not only inspiration but perhaps information from your subconscious mind.  Tuning into this part of yourself is favored at this time and could provide important guidance.  What surfaces here may contradict an existing belief in some way or conflict with responsibilities related to work.  Some sort of challenge is likely and will probably involve something related to your day job and career path, which may not be in synch.  If you're in a job strictly for the money now may be the time to rethink that and whether it's in your best interest for the long haul.

The Full Moon on Valentines Day has interesting implications as noted earlier primarily because this type of lunation typically indicates an ending, culmination or shift to a new phase which can fit easily with relationships.  Whether you're beginning a new romance, ending one or perhaps moving into a new phase such as becoming engaged or married they fit.  Since this lunation occurs in your 3rd house of thoughts, ideas, siblings, neighbors and local travel, it is likely to relate to something in that part of your life as well.  By this time Mercury has backed into your 9th house of beliefs and expectations where these should be examined closely in concert with new developments in your 3rd house whether it's new ideas or whatever.  Responsibilities at work are likely to be involved or perhaps something related to your supervision or management with whom you may not agree.  The key to mitigating any conflict lies with Mars who's in your 5th house of creativity, ego definition, children, romance, entertainment and speculation.  Usually Mars is all about taking unilateral action but he's in Libra which is likely to require negotiations with someone else but this appears to be the way to work around it, even though it's going to take some effort.

Upset or disruptions from friends or any organizational ties you may have are possible.  Your goals may also be disrupted, perhaps due to financial issues or perhaps simply having to juggle your busy life in such a way that you cannot only do what you must do but also find time for yourself and what you want or need to do.  Pluto and Venus and trying to take you in a new direction but balancing and confronting these other forces will be required first.  There are challenges galore out there at this time, but the over all theme for Gemini seems to be a careful assessment of what is in your heart and confronting anything that may be standing in your way from going after them.  Ignoring what your heart wants usually isn't a good idea and the cosmic energy at this time can help you access that, even if you've kept it buried in your subconscious.  Take advantage of it while it lasts.
