Lunations and Long-term Aspects

There's only one lunation to report on this month, the Full Moon on February 14 which is Valentines Day in much of the world.  Having only one lunation is somewhat unusual but since there were three in January and this is a short month it's obviously possible.  Thank past Roman emperors and the like who virtually "stole" days from poor February to add to their own namesake months like July (Julius Caesar) or August (Augustus Caesar).  Ego can be a dangerous thing.  Every year will have 13 since the lunar cycle is approximately 28 days so one of the months will typically have three.

Mercury goes retrograde on February 6 so I'm going to talk about that a bit first.  He stations at 03:20 Pisces, your 3rd house of thoughts, ideas, siblings, neighbors and local travel which will sextile your natal Sun if your birthday is right around December 25.  (Ha!  That just happens to be me!  LOL!)  Mercury is not well placed in Pisces, sign of his debility as well as fall.  He tends to be logical and fact-based while Pisces' environment is intuitive, imaginative, sometimes grossly illogical and conducive to brainfog.  Mercury is also conjunct Neptune, ruler of Pisces, which will further strengthen this effect.  However, this can be a good thing, which I'm counting on.  If you've been a bit stuck solving an existing problem then this has the potential to draw some inspiration your way.  Rational thinking can't solve all problems plus sometimes there are multiple possibilities that appear virtually equal yet mutually exclusive, making it hard to choose which way to go.  That is where some inspiration can be extremely helpful in deciding which one to choose or perhaps bringing ideas you never would have thought of without that boost.

The chart for Mercury's station tends to tell something about its message so that is what I'm basing this on.  If you're an astrologer you can access the chart at the link at the top.  If your birthday is right around January 10 the Moon in Taurus on this chart trines your natal Sun.  Taurus, a fellow Earth Sign, is your 5th house of creativity, ego definition, children, romance, entertainment and speculation.  The Moon of course rules emotion so this suggests some emotional satisfaction coming from this part of your life.  The 5th is sometimes nicknamed the "Fun House" since it contains things that are generally pleasant, at least when things are going well. 

As far as the chart's concerned, Venus, which just stationed direct the end of January, is trining the Moon and is conjunct your natal Sun if your birthday is right around January 5.  While retrograde Venus typically will call attention to what you value which in your 1st house will make it personal.  It may even relate to what you value about yourself.  She is also the warrior goddess at that time and will be as long as she rises before the Sun as the Morning Star.  This is when she puts on her armor and goes after what she wants.  This can give you the wherewithall to pursue something you want or need at the emotional level.  Pluto, of course, is still in your sign and will be for years to come.  If your birthday is right around January 3 he is currently sitting on your natal Sun which you probably have already noticed.  This is a very transformational transit to which I can definitely testify, having been through it a few years ago myself.  What I see in all this is a time for complete authenticity.  If you have been pursuing something simply for practical reasons but it's not what's in your heart then now is the time to confront it and decide if it's worth it.  Furthermore, if you've had any confidence issues that were holding you back from pursuing a dream it's time to deal with that as well and may be where Pluto can come to your assistance.  For example if you've been money or status driven heretofore, which is pretty typical for a Cappy, maybe it's time to realize that there are other things in life with equal or more importance.  This will not necessarily be an easy process but I'll cover that more under the Full Moon. 

A particular challenge associated with this Mercury RX period is likely to be financial.  Yes, we all like to eat and stay warm and certainly need substance to assure the basics of life.  The question is how much beyond that are you supporting at the expense of what you really want or love?  You may have responsibilities to others or goals that likewise require resources and taking care of them while pursuing your heart's desire is going to be a challenge.  Yet that is what motivates you and likely to be where some inspiration from Mercury as you rethink and reconsider your situation are likely to come in handy.  Mercury RX is not a time to progress but a time to take a breather and sit down with your goals and objectives to make sure you're on the right course.  Since you're at solar return time that may be worth it as well since they do a good job of scoping out the year to come.

So now, about that Full Moon on Valentines Day.  Since a Full Moon typically denotes an ending, culmination or start of a new phase there are interesting implications for this occurring on this particular day.  In simple terms, it could be the end of a romance, beginning of a new one or perhaps the start of a new phase such as an increase in commitment, something clearly represented for those who become engaged or get married on this date.  On the other hand, if your lover completely bombs out it may be where you give him or her the heave-ho and move on.  For those of us where a relationship isn't on our radar one way or the other it could relate back to Mercury retrograde's mission with regard to what you really love. 

Cappies tend to be tied to tradition and family (4th house) but conversely we also value our career (10th house).  These, of course, can conflict with one another and is represented through the horoscope where the houses that contain these two things oppose one another.  Currently Pluto in Capricorn (1st house) is separating from an opposition to Jupiter in Cancer, your 7th house of relationships.  Jupiter is exalted in this sign and currently retrograde which tends toward ethical and philosophical issues while Jupiter's influence also tends to be expansive and egalitarian.  This could indicate that you've been neglecting your family in some way and want to rectify it.  Oppositions call for balance and in this case that balancing may relate to what you want and need as well.  Complicating that further is Uranus in your 4th house of home environment, endings and new beginnings which can be rather disruptive.  He's tied in with Venus and Pluto as well as Jupiter, putting all these key areas of your life in a bit of a struggle for time and possibly resources as well.  A few other things worth noting, this lunation occurs in Leo, your 8th house of transformations, shared resources, sex, death and regeneration, things you suppress and debt.  This, of course, is complementary to Pluto in your 1st house, especially those of you taking a beating from him at this time.  The primary message here is that it's time for change. 

One key to consider using in dealing with this situation is that Mars, exalted ruler of Capricorn, is in you 10th house of status, career, public image and reputation.  Mars is all about taking action but he's in Libra, sign of his debility, where he can't move forward unilaterally but typically requires the support and perhaps even assistance of others.  He is tied in closely with the lunation as a mediator to help with any financial concerns, even if it's simply a matter of getting advice from a knowledgeable person.  This could be an older friend or mentor but you may not care much for what they recommend, either.  Note that by this time Mercury RX has backed up into Aquarius, where he function much better than Pisces, and is also now in your 2nd house of income, possessions, needs, comforts and pleasures to help you perhaps make some modifications in this area.  This looks like a month of various turning points which won't necessarily be easy but hold tremendous promise for giving you a nudge in a slightly different direction.  If you don't know what that might be, then hope that the Mercury station on the 6th provides some clues.  Bon chance.
