Even as a baby your little Scorpion will possess an amazing intensity.  You can see it in their eyes.  As a Water Sign they are deeply emotional, intuitive and often psychic.  One thing you need to know about Scorpios is that they know everyone’s secrets and have plenty of their own.  This will become apparent even when they’re a child. 

This comes from having Pluto for a planetary ruler whom I repeatedly refer to as the Zodiacal roto-rooter.  Pluto’s job is to exhume old, buried, rotting issues, and expose them to the light of day for resolution, which can be compared to the mythical Phoenix that rises from its own ashes.  This is ultimately a good thing that effects healing, but getting there can be a bit frightening.

I’m telling you this so that you recognize the general theme behind Scorpio which will ultimately reflect in all its constituents.  Your child will derive things from his or her experiences that go way beneath the surface.  They will ask you deep, probing, and possibly weird questions.  They may be interested in occult subjects at an early age and may also demonstrate a fascination with death.  Your best bet is not to react to their queries in a shocked manner but to answer them as matter-of-factly as you can manage.  These are normal questions for a Scorpio.  I kid you not.  They also tend to be obsessive, so whatever you do, don't encourage that.  You're not going to be able to eliminate that particular tendency, but by all means don't give them a reason to be, either.  Again, being matter of fact is likely to be your best bet.  If you appear upset by their questions, they may obsess on being weird or different.  In fact, take note of the fact that their passionate nature predisposes them to be excellent obsessors.

Nonetheless, Scorpios tend to be very affectionate and benefit greatly from a lot of love.  Along those lines, however, another thing you need to know is that Scorpio rules the Zodiacal 8^th House which comprises sex, death, transformations, debt, and other people’s money.  So another thing they have a strong affinity for is sex.  You need to bear this in mind early in their upbringing so as to educate them about the birds and bees in a straight-forward and honest way.  If you wait too long they’ll probably know more about it than you do.  They need a strong moral code to live by, especially if you don’t want them to engage in recreational sex from an early age.  As a Fixed Sign they’re set in their ways so it’s best to assure that their “ways” are as above-board as possible. 

Another thing you probably cannot program out of a Scorpio is their sense of entitlement.  While they usually have a strong work ethic as a result of all that passion, they have no problem availing themselves to other’s assets.  If someone has more money than they do they will expect them to share.  As they mature they will be very comfortable around wealth and luxury and will be constantly looking for their share of the pie.  They probably invented the phrase “What’s mine is mine and what’s yours is mine.”  Teach them to handle money, earn their own, then guard yours as if its Fort Knox.

This is not to say that Scorpios aren’t loving and loyal to their families, because they are.  You will be an important role model to your little Scorpion because they will be fiercely protective and close to their own offspring someday.  However, you need to know that they are not to be trifled with and arm them with the emotional tools they need to deal with their problems in ways that don’t involve a snap of their lethal tail.  Under most circumstances they won’t do this to family members, but for the sake of the rest of the world it would be a good thing to prevent any carnage you can.

With their incredible knack for uncovering secrets, they do very well in occupations that harness that particular talent, for example, forensics, computer security, and any kind of research.  Of course whatever they decide to do their ability to discover information, no matter how deeply buried it may be, will come in handy; but if they lean toward something that is clearly a good fit for the astrological nature, then encourage them, even if it's something unconventional like a medical examiner or mortician.   

One thing you need to remember is that beneath that shell your little Scorpion has a soft heart.  They are deeply emotional and need a lot of affection, especially hugs.  Make sure s/he has a strong moral compass and plenty of constructive outlets for that natural passion.  They are loyal, caring, never dull and will truly make your experience as a parent an interesting one.
