Lunations and Long-term Aspects

This month begins with a Lunar Eclipse on June 4, the companion to the Solar Eclipse on May 20. According to eclipse guru, Bernadette Brady, the eclipse family to which this one belongs has friendly overtones in that it can bring success your way for something on which you have been laboring for a long time. I certainly have my fingers crossed on that one! The chart itself for this specific lunation doesn't look that friendly, yet it really depends on how it interacts with your natal, secondary progressed, solar return, planet returns and, in the event you've moved a significant distance from your birthplace, your relocated chart which will shift your ascendant and all the house cusps thus placing the energy in different houses and part of your life. Nasty looking transits can often translate to good things, depending on how they hit your chart. Thus, if the transits themselves look challenging, with favorable links to your charts they will not be as difficult for you to negotiate as opposed to someone they hit like a train.

That said, let's see what we've got. The eclipse itself is in Sagittarius, your 2nd house of possessions, income, finances, needs and pleasures. If you think metaphorically about the mechanics of an eclipse you can see that it implies an overshadowing of your emotions which will relate to this part of your life in some way. The Sun, the other element of the eclipse, is in Gemini, highlighting your 8th house of transformations, sex, death and rebirth, intense experiences, debt and shared resources. This is the zodiacal house Scorpio rules and thus familiar territory for you. This polarity implies that something in this part of your life may present itself which you don't particularly like, yet can't do much about. If your birthday is within a day or so of November 7 it is more likely to necessitate a change of direction than for others. There is an element of sacrifice or letting something go which will take some effort, but it is not overly hostile, at least in the long haul. Scorpios have a knack for landing on their feet, come what may.

Mars, your traditional sign ruler before the discovery of Pluto, is forming a T-square with the eclipse from Virgo, your 11th house of goals, friends, networking, organizations, and groups. Mars is getting ready to exit from the shadow period of his recent retrograde cycle which indicates he is gearing up for something which will get going after June 20. This is conflicting with the matters being affected by the eclipse in some way, but remind yourself that every cloud has a silver lining and its through pushing through these obstacles that you grow and progress. People who never have any obstacles to overcome tend to be shallow and boring. Perhaps something you want to pursue as a goal is being held back by your finances. This only means you need to figure out a workaround.

Venus is retrograde in Gemini which changes her character from the Goddess of Love to the Goddess of War. This is when she dons her armor and fights for what she wants or needs. She is also participating in the T-square between the eclipse and Mars, giving you some further motivation to confront whatever is going on. More on her below with respect to the New Moon.

Mercury is also in Gemini, accelerating your thought process and data-gathering abilities with regard to whatever is going on. He is trining Saturn, retrograde in Libra, your 12th house of dreams, enlightenment, inspiration, confinement, seclusion, institutions, hidden enemies and self-undoing or what I usually call the "angels and demons" house, for obvious reasons. Saturn comes out of retrograde on June 25, shortly after Mars exits his shadow period, which will help get things moving. While retrograde Saturn is digging around in your subconscious stirring up something which you need to restructure or rebuild. This could be a dream or perhaps conquering a self-defeating behavior. You will know what it is by the end of the month and be able to start making progress toward getting it taken care of by your birthday. This will have a transformational effect with significant benefit so give it all you've got.

A long-term aspect which will be in effect until the end of the year is a square between your modern sign ruler, Pluto, and Uranus. Pluto is in Capricorn, as you probably already know, which is your 3rd house of thoughts, ideas, siblings, neighbors and local travel. No one can manage Plutonian energy like a Scorpio and in your 3rd house of thoughts and ideas should give you a tremendous advantage. You already have x-ray vision and discernment and this will put it on steroids for several years to come. It will be most pronounced when aspecting one of your planets; those of you born within a day or so of November 1st should notice it currently and anticipate a change of course of some description. Uranus is in Aries, a potentially aggressive, impulsive and independent sign, producing energy of a very volatile nature. These two together could produce quite an explosion, such as those found in nuclear bombs and volcanoes.

Aries is your 6th house of work, service, health and pets. Uranus rules such things as sudden change, breakthroughs, technology, rebellion, freedom, unexpected events and so forth. Putting all this together points toward a lot of energy into such things as your job. This comes with a warning not to self-destruct in the process. Managed properly this can be powerful, but the square definitely bears a huge caution flag in how you use this energy.  Breaking away from some sort of oppression can be a good thing but be sure you consider any collateral damage that could follow in its wake. Subversive thoughts provoked by Pluto could bring about events at work which may not be in your best interest.

The New Moon on June 19 is again in Gemini, your 8th house of transformations as defined above. This is a second chance for something new in this part of your life, perhaps instigated by that eclipse last month. The reason we have two New Moons in a row in this sign is that the last one, the eclipse, was at 00:21 Gemini and this one is at 28:43 Gemini, illustrating the 28 day lunar cycle as well as the fact the Sun moves approximately one zodiacal degree each day. This lunation trines Neptune in fellow Water sign, Pisces, your 5th house of ego definition, children, romance, creativity, entertainment and speculation. Neptune is in dignity in Pisces, the sign he rules, and thus very powerful. This can bring get inspiration with regard to fantasizing but can bring delusions as well. Neptune energy can be deceptive, confusing and off in La-la-land. This could also incline you toward wanting to escape, possibly through adult beverages or perhaps over-indulgence in fantasies such as novels or movies. It's okay to indulge these as long as you are able to separate them from reality. This particularly trine is favorable for finding inspiration toward significant changes you need to make in your life.

By this time Venus is in full battle regalia and can now be seen as the Morning Star for those of you up before sunrise. She is in a closed loop aspect with Pluto and Uranus, a tight partile one, which means they are in the same degree of their respective signs. Those of you born within a day or so of November 1st are again the strongest recipients of this energy. The quincunx to Pluto indicates a change of direction as you push for what you want and need. This influence could change how you see a situation as you defend your needs. The sextile from Venus to Uranus indicates an opportunity for sudden change, possibly at work. I don't like to emphasize the health side of the 6th house and freak people out, but with Uranus in that house you should be a bit more cautious and be sure to take care of yourself. On the positive side, the sextile with Venus could be exactly what you need to start a fitness program.

Jupiter is in your house of transformation now as well and squaring Neptune. This is another reality check. Don't be obsessive or excessive about whatever you come up with because it could have a detrimental affect on the outcome. If your birthday is between October 25 - 27 you have a bit of an advantage toward managing this properly; the rest of you be aware of it and listen carefully to your instincts. Mercury has moved into fellow Water sign, Cancer, and is sextile Mars and square Saturn. Those born November 14 - 16 will feel this one the most. Cancer is your 9th house of higher learning, legal matters, beliefs, expectations, philosophy of life, politics, religion, long-distance travel and other cultures with Mercury indicating thoughts or information relative to this part of your life. This is where you integrate your thoughts into beliefs, especially now. The square to Saturn suggests you may be resisting something you know you need to do. The sextile with Mars lends a hand with respect to one of your goals or perhaps some help from a friend or group. Remember that the 12th house where Saturn is currently is your house of self-undoing so if you have a self-defeating behavior holding you back, confront it. If you don't know what it is, keep watch around June 25 when Saturn goes retrograde for a revelation.
