Lunations and Long-Term Aspects

First of all, note that the year begins with all of the planets in direct motion, which will help provide plenty of energy to jump right into action.  However, come January 24 when Mars stations retrograde, this may come to a screeching halt.  Mars is in Virgo, your 3rd house of siblings, ideas, thoughts, neighbors and local travel which is where much of this energy is going to show up or rather slow down.  The station may even mark the culmination of something in this part of your life which has been building for a while.  However, shortly after that you can expect it to relax somewhat as your conscious and subconscious mind begin to merge with the internalized energy.  Mars is going to be in Virgo until the 4th of July, or nearly eight months, which is quite the lingering stay in a sign considering he usually spends about a month and that's it.  You may tend to see this as analogous to your mother-in-law or that annoying sister or brother saying they'll stay for a week and then stay a few months instead.  On the other hand, if there is anything going on in this part of your life which is a bit complicated and can't be solved overnight, this provides a lot of great cosmic energy for figuring it out.

One of the most significant parts of this retrograde period, or any of them, for that matter, occurs when the back-pedaling planets is opposed by the Sun.  This will occur the first few days of March, which is the time to watch for something important to come to your attention in this regard.  Also involved will be Pisces, where the Sun will be, which is a fellow Water Sign and your 9th house of higher learning, legal matters, beliefs and expectations, philosophy of life, religion, politics, relocation and long-distance travel.  Polar signs always relate to one another, albeit subtly, but the energy associated with a retrograde planet is well-suited to make that connection.  One way to look at it is that your 3rd house thoughts and ideas ultimately evolve into your 9th house beliefs and expectations.  On the other hand, your philosophy of life may also be affecting your thoughts or your attitude toward your siblings, neighbors or even your daily commute.  At any rate you have plenty of time to start thinking about it and while all the answers and meaning are not likely to immerge for several months, giving it some thought consciously is useful for identifying the message the cosmos is bringing your way at this point in time.

The Full Moon on January 9th is in your sign and will be particularly significant if your birthday is within a few days of July 10.  This is likely to bring the culmination or shift to a new phase at the personal level which will probably involve a close relationship in one way or another.  Mercury is currently in your 7th house of close relationships which can help facilitate conversations in that regard.  As you may recall, Pluto is there as well, helping to resolve anything from the past that is still festering or perhaps power issues in relationships.  Note that Uranus has recently gone back into fellow Cardinal Sign, Aries, where he will undoubtedly be stirring things up with regard to your career, status or public image, especially for those of your with birthdays around the summer solstice.  Sudden changes, disruptions, rebellion, breaking away and surprises in that area are likely.

The New Moon on January 23 is in Aquarius, your 8th house of transformations, intense experiences, shared resources, debt, death and regeneration/rebirth.  The New Moon is the apex of a T-square which also involves Saturn and Jupiter, suggesting that the theme involving that opposition will introduce itself with this lunation and thus result in a significant change of some sort in your life.  Saturn is in Libra, sign of his exaltation, which is a good thing since it largely mitigates Saturn's malefic nature and allows his influence to be more positive.  Libra is a fellow Cardinal Sign and your 4th house of home environment, memories and cultural roots, which suggests bringing more structure and discipline to this part of your life.

Jupiter, typically a benefic planet, is in Taurus, your 11th house of groups, goals, organizations, networking and friends.  (If you know a little about astrology you may wonder why this opposition doesn't involve polar signs.  This is because Saturn is at the end of Libra and Jupiter is in the beginning of Taurus, putting the opposition in orb but out of sign.)  Jupiter is about expansion but also luck.  Taurus, being a Fixed Earth sign, doesn't move too quickly as a rule, particularly if it involves any sort of threat to your security.  One way this could manifest is increasing your involvement with organizations or perhaps just your friends is going to compete for your time and energy at home which includes any efforts to get more organized.  Maybe this situation has been in effect for a while and the New Moon will simply bring it to your attention such that it can no longer be ignored.  A situation along those lines is likely to appear toward the end of the month, a day before Mars goes retrograde.
