Lunations and Long Term Aspects

This month starts out on June 4th with a Lunar Eclipse, the companion to the Solar Eclipse on May 20. This eclipse as well as the one last month are members of the 14S family of the Saros Series with its general influence according to eclipse guru, Bernadette Brady, success after long-term efforts making it appropriate time to make a push form something you've been working on for a long time. With all the doom and gloom going on this year, that is certainly favorable news! Check the eclipse link above in the Easy Reference section for more information on the Saros Series.

Looking at the chart for this specific lunar eclipse may lend a few more clues, though it's over all appearance isn't overly friendly. That, however, doesn't mean it won't work well for you. That all depends on how it interacts with your natal chart as well as your secondary progressed, solar return, and planet return charts. Furthermore, if you have moved a significant distance from your birthplace then your relocated chart would be relevant as well. Moving changes the ascendant and therefore the rest of the chart, often totally rearranging the houses and thus shifting the planets' influence to other parts of your life. This, of course, is why it is sometimes a good idea to move if things are not going well in your life. You may still be having hard transits which you can't escape entirely, but you can shift them to a different and assumably more manageable part of your life.

The eclipse occurs in nextdoor neighbor sign, Sagittarius, your 12th house of dreams, spirituality, inspiration, enlightenment, seclusion, confinement, hidden enemies and self-undoing. I call this the "angels and demons" house for obvious reasons. Given that lunar eclipses tend to operate more on the emotional plane, this could bring a profound experience your way such as insights which have an important bearing on your life. The Sun is across the zodiac in Gemini, your 6th house of work, health, service and pets, highlighting this part of your life. Think about how this polar sign pair might be interacting to get some idea what the message might be. For example, this could bring some significant inspiration to your work or perhaps point out that your soul is starving due to overwork, which would be par for the course for most ambition-driven Cappies; I know because I'm one of them.

Mars is in fellow Earth sign, Virgo, your 9th house of higher learning, beliefs and expectations, legal matters, other cultures, long-distance travel, religion, politics and your philosophy of life. From that locale he is forming a T-square with the eclipse Sun and Moon which tends to be a bit of a challenging aspect. Mars is still in the shadow period from his recent retrograde cycle a month or so ago. This suggests that you are in the process of redoing something that isn't quite finished yet. However, it will be once he makes true progress again around June 20. Mars rules you 4th house of home environment, memories, new beginnings and cultural roots, which will play into your 9th of beliefs and perhaps start a new phase. In other words, you are probably forming some new beliefs which will ultimately start a new cycle for you, perhaps with regard to your work or spiritual side.

Venus is retrograde and conjunct the Sun and also squaring Mars as part of the T-square. As ruler of your 5th house of creativity and your 10th house of career this suggests activity with something in those parts of your life as well as they relate to work. While retrograde Venus changes character from the Goddess of Love to the Goddess of War, implying that she will fight for what she needs and defend herself in what may be an out-of-character way. Another possibility with this T-square which is on the more negative side (but something gloom and doom Cappies would want to know) is that you may have a self-defeating behavior or someone trying to undermine you which is holding you back at work. Venus can give you the help you need to combat it.

Mercury is also in your 6th house of work and he is trining Saturn, your sign ruler, who's retrograde in Libra, your 10th house of career, reputation, public image and status. Saturn retrograde brings delays and much slower progress than you'd like as he is busy restructuring something. You probably aren't even aware of what that might be, but it's in-work and will become apparent when he goes direct June 25. At that point you'll have some idea what to do so you can get it taken care of by the time the shadow period is over in October. The trine from Mercury implies there will be news or information related to your work which will contribute to the rebuilding Saturn is pursuing. Combining this with the successful personality of this eclipse sounds favorable to me. It's not like Cappies are afraid of hard work.

One long-term aspect we have to deal with until the end of the year is a square between Pluto in our sign and Uranus in fellow Cardinal sign, Aries, your 4th house of home environment, memories and new beginnings as noted earlier as the house Mars rules. Uranus is the planet of disruptions, disturbances, breakthroughs, freedom, rebellion, innovation, sudden change, and unexpected events to name a few. He is next to impossible to predict by virtue of his very nature being unpredictable. You can thus expect all sorts of surprises around the house, for one thing, whatever that may entail. It may also be time to break away from something or be entirely unconventional, which doesn't sound very likely but is always possible. The 4th is also where we begin a new cycle, which may be abrupt, unexpected and entirely surprising.

The square with Pluto in your 1st house of personality is going to be a factor. Those of you with birthdays right around December 30 and currently in the throes of Pluto conjunct your natal Sun. This can be quite a grueling time and less than enchanting until you come out on the other side. It has been said by someone that it is truly rare to die from a Pluto transit but you may want to. Having just been through it a few years ago myself, I can tell you it's no cake-walk but this time of transformation and ridding yourself of anything you no longer need can be cathartic and truly represent the "rebirth" part of Pluto, so take heart. But I digress. The Pluto - Uranus square is going to truly exacerbate this situation for those currently involved with Pluto. This will add a whole bunch of disturbances that contribute to the transformational effects. This is a time to be pro-active in identifying the message and energy and whether you are using the energy or it is using you, as it will if you just sit there and grumble about it. Pluto is all about power and control and it's possible that in order to truly get in the driver's seat of your life you'll need to break away from something and start over.

The New Moon on June 19 is in Gemini. Again. Last month it was at 00:21 Gemini and the solar eclipse while this time it is 18:43 Gemini, illustrating the 28 day lunar cycle as well as the fact the Sun moves approximately one zodiacal degree per day.  It just doesn't happen that often that you get two New Moons in the same sign two months in a row. You have probably already figured out that Gemini is you perhaps overworked 6th house of work, health, service and pets as noted above. The Universe truly has the knack for driving something home. At this point Venus is in full battle regalia and the Morning Star, or Goddess Of War, rather than the soft and romantic Evening Star. She is in cahoots with both Pluto and Uranus, so listen up or at least pay attention. This aspect pattern suggests that by defending your needs you can start a new cycle which will have transformational effects at the personal level and benefit your work.

Mercury is now in your polar sign, Cancer, your 7th house of close relationships including your significant other, close friends and relatives, business partners, competitors and business professionals. He is squaring Saturn in your house of career, suggesting some news or information from one of those 7th house people which may create something to deal with regarding your career and the restructuring going on there.  Mercury rules your 9th so there is a slight possibility of moving or relocating. Mercury is sextile Mars, ruler of your 4th of home and new beginnings, so this looks like an opportunity to possibly do just that.

The New Moon itself is trining Neptune, well-situated in his home sign of Pisces which constitutes your 3rd house of thoughts, ideas, siblings, neighbors and local travel. This can bring a lot of inspiration your way with respect to your work, but Jupiter, also in Gemini, is squaring him which says to me that you need to make sure you don't get carried away. This is not typically something that a Cappy would do. I would say don't put all your eggs in one basket or be unrealistic about your prospects, which are a couple more actions which aren't sign-typical. Noting that Jupiter rules your 12th, if anything it might be the opposite, of being too pessimistic and thus inhibiting your dreams in a way that does the typical Earth sign stunt of burying it with practicality and too much realism. Use your sign ruler, Saturn, over there in fair and balanced Libra to come to a happy medium.
