Lunations and Long-term Aspects

The New Moon on September 5 is in your sign, Virgo, and conjunct your Natal Sun if that's your birthday or it's within a day one way or the other.  If so, note that this lunation will be part of your Solar Return and thus be with you the entire year.  Of course your Solar Return will be slightly different since it will be to the minute of when the Sun reaches its natal position.  The ascendant is of primary importance, just as it is for your natal chart, so your best bet if you want to know what's coming at you in the year ahead is to get one of our Solar Return Reports.  These comprehensive reports are usually at least 20 pages long and our most popular computerized report.

Generally a New Moon in your 1st house will bring something new your way with personal significance with any aspects tying it into other areas but these are mostly closed loop aspect patterns that represent a continuous flow of energy.  You're probably already aware of that ongoing Uranus - Pluto square which will be in effect on and off until 2015.  With Pluto in your 5th house of children, romance, creativity, ego definition, entertainment and speculation you can expect some major transformations in that part of your life.  Pluto is all about taking control, power, eliminating things you no longer need, resolving old issues form the past, exposing corruption and subsequent healing which will be related to this part of your life.  Uranus is in Aries, your 8th house of transformations, sex, death and regeneration, debt, shared resources, things you suppress and intense experiences.  If this sounds rather Plutonian you're right, this is the house that comprises Scorpio in the zodiac which is ruled in modern times by Pluto.  Thus you have a bit of a double whammy when it comes to a Plutonian or transformational theme. 

Uranus represents sudden change, rebellion, breakthroughs, freedom, technology, disturbances, disruptions, anything unconventional, unexpected or surprising.  Thus, the implications when this square is in effect are that events will come out of the blue and have a deep impact on you.  You will be inclined to be more deeply affected by anything going on in your 5th house whether it's your kids, a love interest, creative endeavors or even movies.  As far as speculations are concerned, this energy could be quite useful in identifying where and how to invest which can be quite tricky these days.

Now take the implications of the Uranus - Pluto square and tie them into the New Moon.  The link to Pluto is a trine and thus harmonious but note that this primarily indicates an easy flow of energy.  Thus, it may not necessarily be favorable, but it could be.  If you know something about astrology or are attempting to learn more this can be an important point.  If you have two malefic planets in a supposedly soft aspect (trine or sextile) it merely describes the energy flow, not necessarily how it will manifest in your life.  Nonetheless, hopefully this will be positive, linking something new and transformation to you life from your 5th house.  This could be a new child, creative project or whatever that affects you deeply.  So far so good.  The New Moon connects with Uranus by quincunx, an aspect that is inherently unstable and necessitates an adjustment or change of course.  In my experience it tends to be a bit Uranian in character in that it's hard to predict how it will turn out, so you have a bit of a double whammy there as well.  Uranus can bring nervousness, a hectic pace and lack of stability as one surprise or disturbance after another comes your way and due to the square with Pluto will probably involve your 5th in some way.  The quincunx to the New Moon brings it home with the need to change course.  Something needs to change and these events will help you identify what it might be.

There is actually another planet tied into the Pluto - Uranus square for this lunation and it's Jupiter in Cancer, sign of his exaltation, who is forming a T-square with those two from your 11th house of friends, goals, groups, organizations, networking, hopes and wishes.  Jupiter is generally a benefic planet who brings good luck and confidence but his primary function is expansion and exaggeration.  Tied in with Uranus he could give you the feeling of being a buoy afloat in a choppy bay.  The opposition to Pluto implies that expanding your goals or group activities may require eliminating something from your 5th house.  Remember the 5th includes entertainment and fun in general.  If you're playing a bit too much maybe it will keep you from achieving more important goals.  The New Moon forms a Triangle of Potential with this opposition, however, which suggests you are the only one who can solve this issue and it's likely to come to your attention at this time that balance is required between these two areas of your life.

Another aspect pattern in this lunation includes Mars, Neptune and Saturn.  Mars is in Leo, your 12th house of spirituality, enlightenment, inspiration, institutions, seclusion, confinement, your subconscious, the collective consciousness, institutions, hidden enemies and self-undoing or what I tend to call the "angels and demons" house.  Mars is about taking acting but in the 12th can also warn of aggression from a hidden enemy.  The quincunx from Neptune carries a bit of a warning as well since this is the planet that rules deception and he's in your 7th house of relationships which includes your significant other, close friends and relatives, business partners, business professionals, competitors and open enemies.  This implies that someone close to you may be undermining your efforts in some way.   Saturn is in your 3rd house of thoughts, ideas, siblings, neighbors and local travel where he's being squared by Mars.  Saturn is the planet of discipline, responsibility, structure, boundaries and hard lessons.  He's excellent for getting organized and making things happen but the square from Mars suggests some challenges. 

Remember the 12th includes self-undoing so there are implications that moving forward on an idea may be hindered due to self-sabotage, such as lack of confidence of fear of failure.  This is a common Virgo issue due to your perfectionist nature.  You may often feel as if you've failed if you don't come in first place or perform flawlessly, that any mistakes negate everything else.  All you have to do is look around you to know that the rest of the world does not feel this way at all.  I'm sure you've looked at someone who's considered successful and seen nothing but their faults and secretly thought the person was a complete idiot, that you could undoubtedly do better.  Nonetheless, you may hesitate to try for fear of looking like an idiot yourself if you fail or make a mistake.  Think back to Pluto in the 5th which includes ego definition and consider whether you may tend in this direction of self-criticism.  Maybe one function of Pluto will be to help you eliminate false pride or the inclination to be too much of a perfectionist which is holding you back from achieving your true potential.

The Full Moon on September 19 is in your polar sign, Pisces, your 7th house of relationships which includes the individuals noted earlier.  This suggests an ending, culmination or shift to a new phase of one or more relationships.  If you discover someone is a false friend then this could indicate giving that person the heave-ho from your life.  This lunation will be strongest if your birthday is that day and as noted earlier, will be with you all year as part of your solar return.  There are several closed loop aspects accompanying this lunation as well but first let's look at the square between your sign ruler, Mercury, and Jupiter.  Mercury is in your 2nd house of possessions, income, needs, comforts, finances and pleasures which is excellent for gathering information about this part of your life, putting your budget in order, investigating options for a major purchase and so forth.  If you're shopping for something major remember that Uranus in the 8th could cause a few surprises if loans or mortgages are involved.  The square to Jupiter suggests your goals may exceed your income.  This, of course, is a pretty common situation these days where having champagne taste on a beer budget is a problem shared by many. 

Mercury is also part of a Triangle of Potential, however, which implies you may be able to utilize some inspiration to figure out a way around it.  Unexpected disruptions are possible, such as breakdowns involving your car or major appliances but you should be able to follow your instincts to find the best possible deals whether it involves repairs or a major purchase.  Your ideas can be groundbreaking at this time but are likely to involve a few revisions or changes of direction which you will probably sense are required.  If you ignore your instincts you will probably be sorry so pay close attention to what they're trying to say.  Now is a time when you need to pay attention and recognize that you typically make good decisions and have a lot of common sense.  If you've been beating yourself up lately, whatever the reason, it's time to think more positively and give yourself credit where credit it due.  Whatever challenges are before you, you'll be able to handle them much more effectively if you believe in yourself than if you doubt your ability to deal with them.  Get rid of that fear of making a mistake and recognize your inherent abilities.

The Sun leaves your sign and goes into Libra on September 22, an event known as the Libra Ingress.  Whenever the Sun enters a Cardinal Sign it marks a new season, in this case the autumnal equinox in the Northern Hemisphere and the vernal equinox in the Southern.  The astrological chart for this event is used in astrometeorology as well as mundane and geopolitical astrology since it tends to mark the character of the entire season comprising the next three months.  How much this applies to individuals I don't know but I'm going to assume it does and throw out a few prognostications for the coming months.  Feel free to get back to me regarding whether it's accurate or entirely wrong since that is how I continue to learn. 

This chart has the Moon in fellow Earth Sign, Taurus, which will trine your natal Sun if your birthday is right around September 4.  Taurus is your 9th house of higher learning, long-distance travel, other cultures, religion, politics, beliefs, expectations, philosophy of life, relocation and legal matters.  The Moon is exalted in this sign and implies emotional involvement with something in this part of your life.  The Moon is part of a T-square that also involves Mars, still lurking in your 12th house, and Venus in your 3rd of thoughts, ideas, siblings, neighbors and local travel.  This aspect looks as if it could bring some self-sabotage your way where perhaps one of your ideas doesn't come to fruition as expected and you subsequently beat yourself up over it.  This looks as if you will have a major emotional investment in at least one of your ideas which probably involves money.  If you have plenty of confidence then watch your back because someone may be jealous and trying to undermine you behind the scenes.  Unexpected changes may be required, especially if you happened to miss something, but this can be an important learning experience and help you handle future projects with greater confidence and emotional maturity in the future.  There is likely to be a friend or coworker who believes in you and can help you through the rough spots.  You probably know already who this person is so be sure to share your feelings with him or her and make sure you don't keep your frustrations bottled up inside.  They may have some good ideas plus also help your confidence if it's something you're having problems with.
