Lunations and Long-term Aspects First of all, even though it occurs later in the month, note that two planets go retrograde, Saturn on the 18th and Mercury on the 23rd. The important thing to remember with retrograde (RX) planets is that it internalizes their energy such that it operates much differently. Rather than sustaining action toward something new it forces you to rethink or redo something. It can be a particularly frustrating time if you fight against that since the planet will inevitably win. Thus, your best bet is to be aware of it, accept it, and then use it as it was intended. Saturn is in Scorpio, your 2nd house of income, possessions, finances, needs, comforts and pleasures. Saturn puts a damper on just about anything, even when in direct motion. He is all about structure, limitations, boundaries, responsibilities, obligations, authority figures, and so forth. When RX the usual message is that something needs to be restructured. It's time to slow down, take a good look around you at anything you may be missing, and then repair any weaknesses or perhaps build new ones. In your 2nd house this is a time to take a close and disciplined look at your budget. It may also be a time when you find numerous possessions breaking down and needing to be repaired or replaced. If you've been frivolous in your spending you may find yourself paying the price, literally and figuratively. Usually Saturn RX operates on the subconscious level with the message becoming apparent when he resumes direct motion, which will be in July. By the time the shadow period is over, the issue should be resolved. Speaking of items breaking down, also be aware that Mercury will be RX this month as well, fortunately for a much shorter duration that Saturn. However, as you probably already know, Mercury RX is NOT the time to purchase anything electronic or mechanical. If, perchance, your car breaks down it would be in your best interest to rent one until Mercury goes direct and better yet gets beyond the shadow period unless you want to be stuck with a lemon. Mercury will spend this entire RX in Pisces, your 6th house of work, health, service and pets. Mercury does not function well in that sign as it is. Pisces is the sign of Mercury's debility AND fall, conditions that inhibit a planet's ability to function true to its inherent nature. Mercury is about precision and logic, two principles that are antithetical to Piscean intuition and dreamy nature. The immediate implication is that there is likely to be a lot of confusion, illogical behavior and decisions and possible total lack of ambition during this time. On the positive side, Pisces does promote inspiration and enlightenment which might help with the rethink, redo, reconsider and even repair aspects of Mercury RX. However, Pisces is rather loaded with planets this month so that influence is going to be on steroids. More on that below. The New Moon on February 10 is in fellow Air Sign, Aquarius, your 5th house of ego development, creativity, children, romance, entertainment and speculation. This implies something new coming your way in this part of your life. Your Sign Ruler, Venus, is in there as well, which bodes nicely for just about everything. Venus' energy is increased by a trine with Jupiter coming from Gemini, your 9th house of higher learning, foreign travel, other cultures, long journeys, relocation, religion, politics, beliefs and expectations as well as your philosophy of life in general. This is the house where your attitude toward society in general resides. Jupiter is accidentally dignified in that domain as its natural ruler. This bodes very nicely for a romantic trip with your sweetie or creative endeavor. However, the bad news is that Saturn is over there in your house of income and finance and putting a bit of a damper on things. This is where you'll need to bring in some innovation if you want to have your cake and eat it too. As noted earlier Pisces is a popular planetary hangout this month. At the time of the New Moon there are three planets as well as the asteroid, Chiron, contributing a lot to your house of work, health, service and pets. As noted above this isn't particularly favorable for getting things done. Pisces tends to be quite charitable which puts a favorable spin on service projects for those less fortunate than yourself. This could be a very satisfying way to use this energy in a positive way. Just don't get too carried away or these or any other Piscean efforts may implode back on themselves. Saturn is trying to keep things under control as well, so balance can be achieved, albeit with some effort. The Full Moon on February 25 is in Virgo, your 12th house of imagination, dreams, the collective consciousness, seclusion, confinement, institutions, enlightenment, inspiration, hidden enemies and self-undoing. Clearly that is quite a variety of angels and demons. Watch for a culmination, ending or shift to a new phase of something that fits one of those situations. By this time Pisces has four planets in residence and your buddy, Venus, a sneeze away. This is when all that Piscean energy will truly be on steroids and likely to show up on the job. Keep an eye on your health as well. Use good judgment in your diet and physical activities. If you have any health issues be sure to seek professional guidance and treatment as required. Using all that energy in charitable service activities is an excellent way to express it in a positive way. If there is anything about your job or work that you don't like this is a favorable time to make it the subject of contemplation and meditation. If your core beliefs are violated by anything you're forced to do you are likely to be particularly aware of that conflict at this time. A change of direction may be required to assure the satisfaction you need from your endeavors. If nothing else, share your concerns with those close to you as they may come up with an innovative approach to resolve it. At this time Pluto and Saturn are in partile (same degree) sextile and mutual reception (in the sign the other rules) which creates a strong correspondence between them. Saturn is retrograde at this time and probably already clamping down on your finances. Pluto is in your 4th house of home environment, memories, new beginnings, and cultural roots where he may be rooting around and stirring up a few matters as well. Pluto in the 4th often brings significant home repairs that relate to the foundation or plumbing or other hidden issues. He can also force you to confront other issues related to your home life, past or present, or dealing with old unresolved issues. If your birthday is right around October 5th this effect will be the strongest. Remember that even though a sextile is usually a favorable aspect that implies an opportunity, when you're dealing with two malefic planets sometimes it means a rather nasty partnership between them can occur as well as their energies synch up. In other words this can be a difficult time, so if things are tough right now this may have something to do with it. This is when it's very important to use the energy so it doesn't use you. Confront any financial issues and plan for the possibility of home expenses. If there are old skeletons in the closet consider what can be done there as well. Remember that Pluto is also about healing, of eliminating corruption. This may be time to pump out the septic tank, literally or figuratively. This lunation will help identify any issues rumbling around in your subconscious so pay attention. The sooner you resolve them the sooner you can move on. Planetary transits are only as painful as we make them, usually by ignoring the lesson they're trying to convey. |
