FULL MOON

For the first time in over 11 years of writing these horoscopes, they are quite late, for which I apologize. I can provide a doctor's excuse to any of you who'd like one. The Full Moon on December 3 was in Gemini, preceded a little over 8 hours by Mercury stationing retrograde, which I'll get to later. The Full Moon formed a T-square with Neptune and some quirky aspects with Jupiter, all at 11 degrees of their respective signs and no more than 10 minutes of arc from exact. In other words, tight aspects binding those energies together. Jupiter's trine to Neptune increased the God of the Deep's power substantially. While Neptune isn't all bad, he nonetheless rules a considerable amount of unfriendly things, including the flu, pharmaceuticals, liquids of all varieties, drugs, alcohol, delusions, deception, dreams, visions, and, on the more positive side, inspiration and enlightenment.  Obviously, the world generally could use a lot more of the latter and less of the former, but the last I checked the news, idiots still prevail. As a Cappy/Gemini/Virgo type, I prefer logic and facts, much of which is sadly absent in all the unsubstantiated opinions and fake news out there of late. Beam me up, Scotty, there's no intelligent life down here.

Anyway, as always, a Full Moon typically indicates an ending, culmination, or shift to a new phase, which will relate to your natural house as noted above. Thus, this lunation could have busted a delusion or some other aspiration that was unrealistic. Jupiter and the Moon are quincunx, an aspect that calls for a change of course or adjustment, for which Neptune may cooperate and provide some insights that will help you find a new direction.

Sagittarius is loaded with energy with the Sun, Venus, Saturn, and Mercury retrograde hanging out in that sign. While Sagittarius' fiery energy is usually good for the Holiday Spirit, Saturn may throw a damper or two on that, as well as Mercury doing the backstroke. Both are sextile Mars, who's in debility in Libra, which will undoubtedly slow down progress of just about any sort while Uranus is tied in with them, too, and opposing Mars, so disruptions and unexpected events are likely to be at least one cause of delays. So, if you're behind in your plans, whether holiday related or not, don't be surprised.

NEW MOON

The New Moon on 18 December is in Sagittarius and has plenty of company in that sign as noted above. This should bring something new into your life, even if it involves reflection and rethinking something that needs revision. Mars has moved into Scorpio, a sign he traditionally rules, where he is much more comfortable than Libra, where he is likely to feel encumbered and claustrophobic. This energy can be useful for pursuing something you're passionate about, or perhaps plotting a new course for an endeavor that hasn't been working out as expected. While you may know what this is, there's a good chance you're a bit confused and don't know exactly how to proceed just yet, even though you know the previous plan hasn't panned out. Hanging onto the past won't help, but learning from it can. This could be a time to take your stripes, call it tuition, and move on. Sudden changes related to love or money could offer another distraction, though sometimes the best way to solve a problem is to let it stew in your subconscious for a while.

OTHER COSMIC EVENTS

Mercury retrograde from the 3rd until the 22nd of December certainly isn't doing holiday shoppers any favors. I feel sorry for you folks that work in retail, because more than likely you're going to see more confusion, mistakes, and returns, than usual this season, so brace yourself. Mercury RX is a lousy time to buy anything mechanical or electronic, but don't think that other things such as furniture or clothing are exempt, because it could fall apart or be mislabeled. Buying an appliance, or heaven forbid, an automobile, at this time is definitely a bad idea. There are likely to be delays in deliveries, too.  Any new endeavor started when Mercury is RX usually will either come to naught or encounter major delays. Anything acquired at that time has Mercury RX in its "birth chart" which will come back to haunt you, sooner or later.

With Mercury stationing retrograde at 29:18 Sagittarius, it's like he simply hadn't finished his work there yet. The house Sagittarius represents for you is noted above for the New Moon, so ponder the matters it mentions for anything you need to revise, rethink, or redo. Saturn in Sagittarius can help rebuild and restructure, but in a slow, deliberate manner. In particular, with stationing Mercury sextile Mars in Libra, ponder any relationships that are less than ideal and what may be required to fix or at least improve them. There are some that are simply irreparable, so don't necessarily feel like a quitter if that is what all the indicators point toward. Beating a dead horse seldom pays off, plus it wastes time and energy that could be directed more fruitfully elsewhere.

With a New Year soon to be upon us, many give at least some passing thoughts to New Years Resolutions. I, for one, am glad to see 2017 end, and fortunately (hopefully) for me, my birthday is Christmas, so this is also time for my solar return which is the start of a new cycle. Those of you born other months can certainly look back on the calendar year for lessons learned, and if a new year sounds like a good time for a new start, that's certainly not a bad thing. Remember, your house of goals is the 11th, so in many cases a New Moon there can give you the boost you need. However, what I'm trying to get to in a rather roundabout way, is that you shouldn't feel badly if New Years Resolutions simply don't work for you. In many cases, we need all the help we can get, and that includes a cosmic boost. This is often provided by your solar return, i.e. in more simple terms, your birthday, or a New Moon in the relevant house. Diets, for example, always popular after the holidays, are often best begun at other times, depending on your motivation, whether it's health or ego-related.
